    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

Also can I just add.....I was messing around tonight with the pressure reduction valve fitted to my mains. I lowered it down to 0.5 bar. The hammer on the balanced connection got louder. Also when I switched to hot I heard the cylinder make a pop sound. Is this normal? Another weird thing I...

So in summary larger shock arrestor/EV (2L or so) either on the inlet or balanced cold

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

Thanks. But there’s no NRV between the inlet and the balanced cold port? I’m just trying to understand why the arrestor before the inlet had no effect (even trying to make it a bit quieter).

Same problem here - Same cylinder, same multibloc, also a new build!

I tried the kitchen tap method - didn't do anything!

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

So it comes out of the ICG, T with the EV and then straight into Cylinder inlet. I do wonder if the reason why I don't hear it is if I let the whole thing settle for a bit (and the boilers been heating water) - it's because the heat/pressure is building up in the pipe after the ICG - you can...

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

I know. The plumbers were morons. Taps were fitted with hot and cold wrong way in kitchen. Copper pipes bent with kinks in them. Yeah but they are all slightly different. Like one similar house has their EV directly off the ICG - mines off a T. It’s hard to understand if it’s the same banging...

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

3 years. New build is all I’ll say!! Been doing it since the house was 6 months old. The builder kept saying it was due to a lack of service of the cylinder.

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

Sure can. Can you explain why the EV on the HW side would affect the cold taps if there’s a check valve in the ICG? Just trying to learn!

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

Yeah just thought fitting a pressure reducing valve at the mains after the meter would help or at least lessen the noise! I don’t get the spikes anymore but still hammers. Just can’t get why it’s bad so and doesn’t happen when it’s settled for a bit and only when the hot is flushed through

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

Yeah just had a look - be good to see if that would cure the problem before I commit to buying one! I'm surprised even the little one didn't quieten it even a bit!

It's a gate valve. BC is balanced cold back down toward rest of house taps

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

Yeah those ball ones - got any recommendations for a bigger one? All the ones I see online look like EV ones you'd use for an UV cylinder

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

Yeah I asked Joule (the cylinder provider with ICG etc) about this as it's not according to the installation manual. But they said it's acceptable. Just makes it hard work when something breaks eh!

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

Layout of the pipes - the only thing I haven't included is I added a pressure reducing valve set at 3bar were the blue star is. And a hammer arrestor on a T before the ICG Region around the ICG is where the banging is coming from

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

It's blanked off. There's a T below going to the cylinder inlet that feeds the EV. Balanced cold is the top right one

    Water hammer from unvented cylinder

It's a ThermaQ Evocyl 180 L TTPI-00180-L2C The control group according the cylinder manual is a TZG-3.0-00.75L Joule 22mm Multibloc Cash Inlet Control Valve 3/6 Bar - but it has Caleffi on the body of it. When you say balanced what do you mean? The ICG is set at 3bar. Both are taken off it...
