What to do with messy gravel, between now and when I replace it

Pretty much that. I’d buy a wheelbarrow and use something like a large planter or tub as a collector. You could use a hosepipe to wash. Either work from one end to the other, dumping clean material back where it came from, but leaving a defined working strip for access. Use a tarp to collect...

What to do with messy gravel, between now and when I replace it

You can “wash” gravel and get rid of the soil. It needn’t be a difficult job if you make a sieve like frame and gradually clean it. It’s daft to remove gravel just because it”s dirty and then replace it.

Fitting bearing in a cast iron brake drum

Freeze the bearing for several hours at least. I can’t tell if the housing is removed from the trailer? If you can bung it an oven, heat it. If that’s too risky, domestically, a bucket of boiling water helps. Or a hot air gun? I’d use a threaded rod and draw the bearing in. However, if time is...

Re-opening front reception room and dining room

I am tempted to suggest that there is the original walkway, filled in with timber and PB, and that removing the addition isn’t going to make anything drop.

    Removing old concrete fence post

Concrete gets harder as it ages. But years, not months. If you can get the old post out, an Sds drill might help get the old concrete off? The issue will be that you likely will end up with a massive hole, just where you want the new post location. One suggestion (I doubt if it would work?)...

    Religion Of Peace????

There are images of the flag shagger protests with people in suits of armour - some with swords. Much as I disagree with the whole flag shagger movement, the sword carriers were the exception.

Re-opening front reception room and dining room

I would certainly open it up a bit more, you have nothing to lose, so long as you don’t remove the older timbers? Leave anything greyish, remove the more yellow stuff and cut the PB back a bit. I would be surprised if the whole wall was studwork. It could have been lathe and plaster originally...

Re-opening front reception room and dining room

That looks a bit weird. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Can we see the top.? Search houses for sale (and sold) for interior photos of houses in the area that may show the original or solutions. Personally, I wouldn’t go with an angled corner? Unless I am getting the wrong idea, adding a 45° corner makes the doorway narrower, not wider?

    Removing old concrete fence post

Yes, jacking it out using the existing post is easier. Leave the post as long as possible for mechanical advantage.

Factory In China Building New Classic Car Complete Shells

I watched that video. I don’t think that “made in China” is necessarily a bad thing? Your iPhone and whatever you are looking at this board on are likely made there. The Chinese make what is effectively a Harley Davidson under licence that has a better engine than the model that Harley...

    New newels/spindles/rails

When I did a couple, the newels went in first. that involves lifting floorboards and fixing the newel to the underfloor structure. I have used screws and tight woodwork to ensure a wobble free newel Then fit the base as a tight fit and fit the handrail, ensuring the height is level and...

Short bit of ceiling wire chasing

The important part is depending on the way that the joists/rafters run. If the timbers supporting the plasterboard run in the same direction as the light fitting, you might be able to fish the wire through? Depends on if there are no cross timbers If the timbers run at 90° to the direction of...

Short bit of ceiling wire chasing

Make a piece of timber as an off stand/plinth. It could be smaller than the fitting or larger. Either pack the plinth to create a channel, or rout a cable channel Fit the light to the plinth then the plinth to the ceiling, using French cable to the ceiling void if necessary. You might be...

    Covering concrete garage

Enlighten us. Fixing timber to the outside using battens is simple. Precast concrete (especially aged concrete) is very hard and you need a decent (Sds) drill.

    Disassemble Bed

Take one screw that connects the metal to timber apart. Look inside the hole to see if there are metal inserts If there are, then you should be good to go If not, you can buy inserts that would go into the existing wood holes, after increasing the original hole. They normally go into a hole...

Is there no makers name on it.? At least post pictures of the whole thing, then images of the inside bracketry and enough so we could make a guess? Did you buy the bed?

Re-opening front reception room and dining room

How well do you know your neighbours? Houses of that era tended to all have doors through the wall, and many owners blocked them up at some point or “modernised” it to form an arch. Someone in your road likely still has the original set up and might let you see? Once you understand the original...
