    Bidirectional and data sheets.

Most of the data sheets I read are for electronic components rather than circuit production equipment, but my experiance is that data sheets almost never talk about features that a product *doesn't* have.

Is it acceptable to connect a radial to a spur via a 13A plug?

It's all very situationally dependent. I think it's easy to get into a situation with a short run of flex from a plug to a socket, where the clips hold the cable in place, but do not provide adequate resistance against the cable getting yanked. Much less likely with a FCU, because you don't...

Is it acceptable to connect a radial to a spur via a 13A plug?

A FCU can't be unplugged and yanked on, a plug can. Also flex is less good about "staying where you put it" than T&E is, and this is exacerbated by the fact that clips may be a loose fit. It does require some technique, at the scales of a 13A plug, a 2.5mm² solid conductor is more like a rod...

Is it acceptable to connect a radial to a spur via a 13A plug?

Agreed. The cable needs to be adequately restrained such that it doesn't get ripped out of the socket. An extension socket gives you this "for free", an ordinary domestic socket on an ordinary patress box does not. Another issue is what type of cable to use. T&E is less than ideal if moved...

Is it acceptable to connect a radial to a spur via a 13A plug?

Afaict it's not forbidden and there can sometimes be good reason to do it. but care should be taken to ensure that the cable is suitable for the application and is adequately restrained.

    SWA across concrete footpath

Doing anything to a concrete slab in such a confined space will be a massive PITA. I'd think you would be better off either running internally or clipping to the outside wall of the house until you get to the back of the house and have more room to work. Then go underground. Your picture...

    These "adaptors" are unbelievable

I did some searching and it doesn't seem to be clear whether cable assemblies count as "electrical equipment" and hence whether "LV" cable assemblies need to be CE marked. In practice few, if-any of them seem to be. What does seem pretty clear is that ELV cable assemblies do not need CE marking.

    These "adaptors" are unbelievable

The impression I get is that at one extreme there are items that are explicitly illegal, and at the other extreme there are products a legitimate seller with lots to lose would be happy selling. And that in the middle there is a huge grey area. Stuff that is not expicitly illegal, but your...

    Removing rubber sheath

I haven't tried cable that big, but my experience with smaller flexible is that the hard part is getting going. Once you've got a good handful of cores and sheath you can just rip the sheath off.

Earth - neutral fault on ring final, any ideas on how to find with ease.

My method of finding shorts in electronics, is to dump a few amps into the fault from a laboratory power supply. Then use voltage measurements to figure out where the current is flowing. Would that also work here?

    An unsheathed wire

One issue is that the insulation tries to force the conductors apart, so even if the conductors themselves will fit in the terminal, actually getting them in can be a challenge. I've particularly found that what I can get in a terminal when I have completely free access and unconstrained can be...

I broke the main fuse seal

I suspect it's extremely hard to definitively answer a question like that. I suspect you would have to go through a huge pile of prosecutions with vauge titles to determine the facts of each case.

Build A NZ -UK Power Lead

The "MF" junction boxes thing is pretty new, but how long have the crimped, soldered, resin encapsulated etc options been there? I'm sure they have been there at least since the 16th but I don't know about before that.

Build A NZ -UK Power Lead

It's a jolly good question. Perhaps the thinking is if something is not accessible for inspection, it will never be inspected, and that is true, but the reality is that most electrical installations practically never see a "thorough" inspection. With say a 10% sample inspection every 10 years...

I wish people would label things 40 years ago

You can also get LED tubes designed to go in flourescent fittings. There are some compromises in such units, but also the distinct advantage that they can be easily replaced when they die. Integrated LED fittings turn what should be a quick bulb swap into a much more time-consuming fitting...

I wish people would label things 40 years ago

Lighting 101 Light switches work by disconnecting the live wire from the light, so permanant live goes to switches, switched live goes from the switch to the light. Then neutral as a return. But we want to wire things up with cables, not single wires. So the permanent live wires are often...

    Wago snapping

No, the wago 221 and 222 series don't support push-in use. Some other brands of similar connectors (and some of Wago's din-rail mount products) do.
