Thought I'd do an update in case it helps anyone. I've started getting the blocks from Travis Perkins. First lot came today and all the ones I measured are bang on 215mm. The others were tarmac ones. About 8p difference in price but the accuracy of gauge and saving on the muck should be worth it.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm actually replacing an existing wall with one that's about a foot further back. The existing one is about a metre high with A 4 inch wall and about 4 inches of concrete behind that. If I make it a bit stronger than that I like to think I'm doing ok.

Expensive way of doing it but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Hello. Used to see this quite a bit back in the day. People using old gas pipes and scaffold poles in things like gate piers and retaining walls. So I wondered if this is frowned upon and viewed and not good practice. As I've got a retaining wall to do and a lot of old gas pipes :).

Yes there is a tray going in. Do you know if it can be a roll of wide dpc or the individual hard plastic ones? I think I will do the other suggestion also, medium concrete blocks on inner wall of porch.

I'm talking about the internal wall in a porch. Which becomes an external wall on the first floor. As there needs to be a tray to keep rain from entering the cavity just about the flat roof is that a point where you can change the type of block?

I thought you guys on this forum might have an idea about this. I've very cleverly pushed the mower into a branch. Now it only runs fire a few seconds then cuts out. I'll attach a picture to show the area the branch went into. I can't see any damage but perhaps you will or have any suggestions...

I've noticed today it's a struggle to keep the outside skin level with the inner wall. Having checked I can see most of the concrete ones are 210mm high. So as the job goes on the difference is going to get worse. Anyone heard of this. I'm wondering if I need a different merchant or complain to...
