Splurge of water ingression during heavy rain.

There was some heavy rain a few days back and a splurge did form in that same area on my ceiling , albeit not as large, perhaps less than half the size. I called out a roofer. He got on the roof to examine it. He lifted a few tiles, looking underneath. He also examined the flashes at the side...

No I didn't, thanks for pointing that out, will get on it.

Water pump stopped in central heating

If I may question, why would I want to turn the valves? In the years I had the previous pump and valves, I never touched it. Reducing the pipe length would have meant using a further new tool, a "pipe slice" as well as the issues in having to remove/(and attach new) olive on the reduced length...

Splurge of water ingression during heavy rain.

I see you don't think there is any credence in my theory (overflowing of water through gaps in tiles during heavy rain). I'll leave this 'experiment' running for a while until my theory is either proved or disproved.

Splurge of water ingression during heavy rain.

It's pretty jam-packed the cloth. I had to cut it into strips in order to get the tight fit needed, so overflowing rain will have some difficulty penetrating through that. Yes, the gap(s) are perhaps a millimetre or two bigger but hopefully the gain from the rain water not being able to...

Splurge of water ingression during heavy rain.

To test my theory, I've filled in the gaps where I believe the water could be overflowing into the felt/wood.

Water pump stopped in central heating

That's why I stuck with the ball type. I hear you; though the consensus of opinion on the thread was that because I will only be using the boiler for1 or 2 hours per week, it was sensible to go for the cheaper machine, as I am unlikely to wear-it-out at that rate of usage.

Splurge of water ingression during heavy rain.

I have a theory too. Take a look at this: You can see that the two adjacent tiles don't 'flush' overlap like the rest. The set of tiles above is the same, though the gap isn't so big. In lifting the bottom left tile, you see this: The circled area (where the nail is cosily still) is a...

Splurge of water ingression during heavy rain.

I have an issue on the single floor room extension of my house. It's a streak of water penetration that usually appears after very heavy rain, which we've had a bout of, over the past couple of days. Around 6 or 7 years back, I got a roofer out. The two gentlemen said it was to do with the...

Water pump stopped in central heating

Worked on this today and just finished. Took two-and-a-half hours. Had to remove electrics from old pump: This wasn't too difficult, just push the clip and pull out the wires. It was easy to loosen the top nut but the bottom one took considerable force using the largest long armed...

Water pump stopped in central heating

Yes, I saw that in a YouTube video. You can also slam/knock olives off using an adjustable spanner. Not sure if you've read the whole thread Harry; I purchased an olive removal tool. However, the general consensus of opinion was, if the olives looked 'healthy' and the thread of the new valves...

Water pump stopped in central heating

Thanks for clarification; proves that by doing a 'thought experiment' and doing this job over-and-over again in my head, I'm realising things.

Water pump stopped in central heating

Another question came into my head; if I'm leaving the old olives, it means I need to leave/use the old nuts as well?

Water pump stopped in central heating

I like the advice on leaving old olives, that simplifies things. I can easily return the olive removal tool to amazon. With the 'making extra sure stuff'; is the advice to use White Hawk OR PTFE tape? Or Is it, use White Hawk AND PTFE tape?

Water pump stopped in central heating

Thanks, kudos1uk. I was just in the process of making up a step-by-step procedure and got a bit stuck with the order on how to attach the new stuff. Two questions: 1) Removing and attaching the whole unit as one will require moving the pipes by a good few cm, perhaps 4 or 5? Is there usually...

Sorry, my friend. Auto spellchecker must have had a go at your name. Fixed now.

Water pump stopped in central heating

That's useful having the olives explained, I've just watched a YouTube video on the matter. If new valves DEFINITELY come with olives (see my earlier post for link to valves I intend to buy) then I would like, as you suggested, dilalio, to attach new ones. Removing the old olives does seem...

Water pump stopped in central heating

Do you mean the UPS2? Yes, this is a serious question, do you know the answer? If you know the answer to my question 1) as well, I'd be grateful. This isn't the first time I've being told this on the forum. Please, I really appreciate the help/assistance/advice AND my very specific...

Water pump stopped in central heating

In looking at the valves I intend to buy (link in earlier posting): I notice they include a washer but only for the larger 1.5" end. This makes me wonder about two things. 1) The pump comes with two washers for each of its (large) 1.5 inch ends. Won't that give me a total of 4 x 1.5"...

Water pump stopped in central heating

As my boiler was installed in 1999, this 'rumour' of the newer USP2 pumps damaging PCB on boilers doesn't rest easy with me. It's all the more reason to get a pump that matches the power spec and operating mechanism as the original that was installed with the boiler back in 1999; hence the...
