    It doesn't matter whether Fromage wins or loses. What shred of legitimacy was left is gone. If he hangs on, the questions won't stop, any more than they do for any other politician who has given cause. And what's more, not only will it be about "skeletons in the cupboard", there will be fresh...

    Not at all. It is the other candidates refusing to give legitimacy to him.

    He's doing it because he wants to be able to say that "the people have spoken". It's another "man of the people" play. "The people" who either do not know the details, or do not care about them. Neither of which absolves him of any culpability, should the Standards Committee find him in breach.

    That's would be nowhere as bad. Apart from "the roolz", the issue is that if Fromage ever got to be in power, he could divert our money to his benefactors. Remember when Bliar was accused of getting through human rights legislation that directly favoured his wife's law practice? Same principle.
