    John Healey (Defence Secretary) resigns.

Funding isn't an issue. The decision to actually do something about the shadow fleet is a political decision but other nations have also been starting to enforce sanctions recently.

The Navy can do that on their own without the Marines let alone the SBS. Its not as if they were being shot at. Still if you have Marines spare then it's a good training exercise.

Trumps attack on Iran - 2026 edition

Back to demanding millions of dead in war crimes I see

None of that addresses anything I've said. It does confirm it comes at a substantial cost.

So not nukes either, none of the armed forces want them.

    John Healey (Defence Secretary) resigns.

Irrelevant to my question, the Falklands is an example of a real threat the UK faced where nukes did nothing and where it would do nothing again. But it's also an example of where a drawdown of conventional forces make Argentina think it could win.

    John Healey (Defence Secretary) resigns.

This isn't about Iran being driven to build nukes, this is about efficiently spending our money on useful assets rather than stupid white elephants. Would we nuke Argentina if they invaded the Falklands?
  8. I

    John Healey (Defence Secretary) resigns.

You want to nuke them instead? Fine, we can buy a lot of drones and EW jammers for a Billion pounds a year.

    John Healey (Defence Secretary) resigns.

That's assuming it's against a peer adversary. If you're facing an enemy without them they last a lot longer. Tanks are still the second best tool for killing another tank. Plus we'd be able to treat tanks as expendable again, rather than having to treat Challenger 2 hulls like the family...

    John Healey (Defence Secretary) resigns.

It would be nice to have a tank fleet again, the K2 from Korea costs a lot, £8 million a pop roughly. We could buy 200 and increase our tank numbers by 1/3 in a year if we ditched the nuclear deterrent. The Krab howitzer costs around £10 million each, we don't have any AS90s anymore. We could...

If we bordered Russia you would have a point. We don't. When would we ever use nuclear weapons?
  12. I

    John Healey (Defence Secretary) resigns.

We're spending an increasing amount, 2.5% of our GDP, on defense but our conventional forces are dwindling. 20% of that, £11 Billion a year, goes on the nuclear deterrent. That's as much as the army, air force or navy receive.

    John Healey (Defence Secretary) resigns.

Retired ones or current? It would be interesting to know what the actual numbers are for retired nurses and bin men. Because current ones just have the same private pensions as everyone else.

Raising the threshold gives more money to the well off than those on lower incomes.

The nuclear deterrent. It is a huge proportion of our defence budget.

And what's he going to do? The only levers he has are ones he doesn't want to use.

The US has been firing on civilian vessels in the Hormuz straights. It may have been involved in enforcing their blockade.

    UFOs

Its hilarious that they actually believe not only in alien anal probes and alpha centaui cowboy builders, but that they think there's going to be a massive reveal of information about it.
