What is the middle switch doing?

MK Gridswitch, pre-Logic Plus so before about 1997. Green earth sleeving before 1977. How cheap a job is that though, not even using grommets? And I don't like the look of the earths - are they wedged under a bent lug?

    Basic machine for Web browsing

Raspberry Pi for the web stuff, and connect to it from your existing desktop with a remote desktop viewer such as VNC. No cross-over switch needed and you will probably be able to copy and paste between the VNC window and other windows, if you want to take text or pictures from the web and...

I use them for the public address system. Not all homes may be fitted with such an amenity, of course.

Fitting strobes within Mains Smoke alarm system

They probably wouldn't, but easy enough to stick something like this on the front and wire in to the relay https://evaq8.co.uk/emergency-led-flare.html?category_id=31 Equivalents probably available from Bang Good or Ali Baba from 99p inc postage.

Fitting strobes within Mains Smoke alarm system

The Aico relay modules have Volt free contacts – (Normally Open or Normally Closed) so could switch a battery-powered load, but I don't know if the relay module will activate at all in the absence of mains power (ie if it can work off power on the IC wire from a battery-powered sensor).

Energy Efficient Wall Mounted Electric Radiators

E7 as a fixed time tariff is probably on the way out, but storage heating if properly implemented is very useful as part of a smart grid as it's a big load that can be switched on and off with neglible inconvenience to end users. As gas boilers aren't supposed to be fitted after a few more years...

Energy Efficient Wall Mounted Electric Radiators

One of the energy saving factoids bandied about (I don't know how accurate it is) is that turning down the room thermostat by 1°C can reduce the bill by 10%. If a more accurate thermostat can avoid the hysteresis of a bimetallic thermostat then you might get some slight saving in money. But if...

What is inside and outside the remit when doing an EICR?

It's all part of the 230 volt fixed wiring. And you should be inspecting and testing to the lampholder terminals on a pendant, otherwise how do you know whether the polarity is correct (for ES), cord grip satisfactory etc. For domestic immersion heaters I would regard them as part of fixed...

    Consumer unit - tight squeeze

The henley block is 2 x 5 ways. Only 4 ways are used. It's a bit messy, but another consumer unit can be added, assuming the 'single point of isolation' for a domestic installation is ignored.

Crimping tools - alternative tools or methods for 6mm2 T&E

I have purchased B&Q crimps (not the tool). You might as well use a kit-kat wrapper jammed inside a dolly peg to hold the wires together.
