    Handbrake & Mot

Doesn't make any difference, only the 'just before stopping' technique has any effect. Never had a MOT fail though, so that's a consolation. By contrast our '06 Mondeo had a HB that would easily hold on about 4 clicks & that's with the car in Drive. Ford 1 BMW/Rover 0

    Handbrake & Mot

Think I have seen your remedy for this complaint before Harry, I take my hat off to you for coming up with a solution. My old 5 series still has a crap HB even after the rear discs/ drums, HB shoes & fitting kit were fitted last year .. ok as a parking brake (just) but will only hold the car...

    Sorn/mot

About 2 hundred in my case & I guess around 20 years. Servicing & repairs as well, first name terms with the staff & I've never been ripped off .. no reception desk, courtesy car or bull...t Family run rural garages are a virtual goldmine these days.

    Sorn/mot

Back in the 'eighties a work colleague who was an ex Met. motorcyclist told me that a traffic stop by him was not valid unless he removed his helmet prior to speaking to the vehicle's driver. Whether that ruling still applies ..

    Tap stuck in cylinder head

Not that overseas enquiries are not welcome, but it did seem strange that a guy from the States would chose a UK car forum on which to pose a question regarding a vintage V8  It's not as though there aren't plenty of enthusiasts over there playing with the things.

Android car play screen blocking view.

In the case of my car the handbrake had to be applied for the DVD to work. I very rarely used it though (|whilst parked) just a novelty having a TV in the car though the screen was only 7 in.

Android car play screen blocking view.

My E39 has an aftermarket android built in as a replacement for the original set-up & that has the capability to show DVD's, though not for long without running the engine as the amps draw is a killer. Fitted by a previous owner several years ago it's a great piece of kit with sat-nav, car...

Water from dehumidifier in windscreen wash tank

Modern ones maybe, but my old E39 wash system has been problem free with aftermarket fluid (post #10) for the 5 years+ I've owned the car.

Water from dehumidifier in windscreen wash tank

I have used Halfords screen wash (the pink winter one) all year round in various cars for decades without a problem, though I've no idea what's going on in the tank itself as it's not situated in the engine bay these days.

    Good Idea?

Road surface damage around here is most noticeable at roundabouts, which bears out your weight & skidding tyres comment. I drove these vehicles for a period of ten years back in the 'eighties when the GVW was 38 tonnes on 5 axles & can bear testament to the road damage they can cause by turning.

Towing Fiesta - No brakes? IDK!?

No need, in those days bumpers were up to the task (y)

Towing Fiesta - No brakes? IDK!?

Was certainly possible back in the 'sixties, push-starting the car with another vehicle was the safest/preferred method.

    Yes, I'm A Sad Git

Possibly, but the ones that didn't become road casualty statistics were a lot fitter & leaner

    Yes, I'm A Sad Git

In my day we walked there, in all weathers including winters the likes of which are never experienced in the UK these days.

    Yes, I'm A Sad Git

I can see where you are coming from, certainly for a vehicle used on a regular basis, but my greatest driving experiences have been with vehicles I owned that were built back in the 1940's .. note the emphasis on the D word ;)

    Yes, I'm A Sad Git

With due respect Harry it sounds like you would be an ideal candidate for driver-less car ownership ;) I do agree about your reference to 'others' though.
