Updating my heating system with smarth thermostats

Hoping somebody can help as I'm not too clued up in these things. I moved in last year to a house that has a Vaillant boiler with radiators upstairs. The rads upstairs are controlled by a Timeguard room stat and a Horstmann Centaurplus C27 programmer. The C27 is programed for set times of the...

    Bathroom inline extractor fan

Some great advice here from everyone, many thanks. Yes, I think you're probably right. The walls in question are standard cavity wall build. The ensuite is above the garage and I'm guessing is about 10/12 years old. I don't know if it's had cavity wall insulation or whether it would be...

    Bathroom inline extractor fan

Hi John, I'd set the fan to run for about 20mins (let's not talk about how infuriating it is to set the timer on these Manrose units). The room is about 3metres square, so guess the ducting was about 4 metres in total and straight. As it happens, since creating this thread, I've had to...

    Bathroom inline extractor fan

I currently have the 4 inch version 'Manrose mf100t' in this bathroom and its doesn't vent to room enough, so I'm convinced I need a 6 inch version especially as I want to split the extraction points. I'm also not keen on getting an electrician in to do the necessary wiring to run 2 x 4 inch...

Garden wall - Maintenance and re-finish

I should probably be clear, I'm not a renderer/plaster by trade, so I'd be DIY'ing it and when I say render I mean just apply a base coat or scratch coat to flatten the surface.

Garden wall - Maintenance and re-finish

I was only planning on rendering the wall to 'pull everything together' and strengthen it. Just thought that it would be a fairly cheap way of achieving strength and a flat surface to tile to. Yeah, I appreciate it would take some time and wouldn't be cheap but we're not moving and I would like...

Garden wall - Maintenance and re-finish

I've done some research since posting yesterday. My research suggests to fix any loose stone, I need to make a lime motor mix and make repairs. To flatten out the wall and cover the stone (render), I can use a render mix of plastering sand and hydraulic lime. Does this sound okay? As you can...

    Bathroom inline extractor fan

Hi Mr B, I have to admit to not doing a huge amount of research on the subject of flexible and solid tube. Is it a well-known fact that solid if far superior? I'm thinking a solid 6 inch tube could be tricky to manage in a loft space and then there's the mention of insulating it although, I'm...

Garden wall - Maintenance and re-finish

Hi all, I'm hoping for some advice here. I have some small decorative walls in my front garden. As you can see, the walls aren't in great shape but I don't want to rip and replace them. I'd like to strengthen and refinish them but need some advice from someone that knows what they're doing :)...

Thanks, Foxhole. I'm hoping the 6" fan is up to the job.

Anyone have any real-world experience here and can offer any advice?

    Bathroom inline extractor fan

Hello, I'm struggling with condensation/black mould in the bathroom above the bath. I currently have a Manrose MF100T 4 Inch fan with a single extraction point above the shower. I'm planning to upgrade to the 6inch version but use a Y piece, so I can split the ducting to extract above the...

Boiler Condensate pipe leaking - Advice needed

I collected the pump today. I noticed there are two wiring connections, one with 2 cores and one with 3. If I wanted to connect directly into the electrics via the switch on the wall, would I use 2 or 3 core?

Boiler Condensate pipe leaking - Advice needed

Hello, Hopefully, an easy question. I'm going for the Grundfos Conlift1 LS condensate pump. I'll need to buy some additional drain piping as it's a fair run to the soil stack. Can somebody tell me which size these are? Strangely I can't find it on any of the spec sheets. Many thanks

Boiler Condensate pipe leaking - Advice needed

I've just popped back home from work to check and the soil pipe does go out through the roof. Sounds like a pump could be the best way forward. I'm sure I can deaden the noise and we're cheap skates so don't have the heating on overnight anyway but I suppose getting woken up in the morning...

Boiler Condensate pipe leaking - Advice needed

Thanks for all your help so far. I will investigate to see if I can locate a soil stack. I know there is definitely one in the garage that the ensuite was built on top of. I'll have to go in the attic above that room and see if it goes up there. I can't remember seeing anything coming out of...

Actually, just re-read, your saying a flue up through the roof is a pain in the ass :)

Boiler Condensate pipe leaking - Advice needed

Yes, I agree. If we ever have building work done, I will look to relocate. Apologies, what does this mean 'If nothing else just to run the flue is a PITA (never like punching through a sealed roof, you often see some nightmares), never mind finding a route for the condensate.
