Best way to sand floorboards around radiators?

Both of these can be pretty savage unless you're very careful

Building Safety Act Principle Designer - what to do if DIY build?

Agree with others that it's a mess and certainly being taken out of context for simple domestic stuff We're just embarking on a big extension (having "downsized" SWMBO needs a project). To keep life as simple as possible I have applied in her name as the client so I can sign off as PD...

    One of two scams

You could try adding cement and mixing it with a rotovator watering and compacting, but if the level is too high that won't help.

    Drilling stone

They are always going to have more power and will just keep going. You can do a lot with just a combi with decent bits:hardly ever had to use the SDS in our previous place but since we've moved and SWMBO has a long list of things she wants done to an inner skin of old flettons, the SDS has been...

Structural Engineer needed or standard USB size?

Many Builders' Merchants will advise the size you need for simple cases like this.

    Drilling stone

You can get a corded SDS for <£100. Your 1000euro must be gold plated!! I have a McAlister from B+Q which has soft start and variable speed. It will drill most masonry: I haven't been beaten yet. Just checked and they are currently £70 If you want really really cheap though go for an old...

    Laying Slabs Incoming Heatwave?

Heat is good. Cement hydrates by chemical reaction and heat speeds things up (often use steam curing in precasting). What you need to avoid is the mortar drying out to quickly (and take care you don't dehydrate yourself if you're not used to the heat.)

    Gas regulator for barbeque

We ran our barbie on a site supplied propane bottle for many years, we just stuck a normal screw in regulator on in lieu of the supplied clip on one. That bottle lasted over 30years (not big barbie fans). When empty I didn't feel able to replace as downsizing but I did find it hard to find...

    Ladder on pitched roof advice

Learn to love the moss: far safer! How would you have got the eyebolts in to tie the ladder as a matter of interest?

    Building on sand

Detatched garage <30sqm doesn't need BRA. You'd not normally need PP either unless forward of building line. A raft would be easiest option and no great difficulty to build: you'd need floor anyway.

    Trailer Build

Steel every time. Mine was made of 2inch steam barrel (pretty much scaffold tube), old bed irons for the corner posts, scaffold board bed and shutter ply sides. Hillman imp wheels, Moggie Minor leaf springs, an old cement mixer motor cover from a hedge bottom split to form mudmusic guards...

    Disassemble Bed

My daughters house when bought had quite nice hardwood flooring in the bedroom......except for the bit the bed had sat on. OP make sure you have decent screwdrivers and use them carefully. Mullering screwheads won't help. (and I bet your bed isn't as heavy as the wretched thing I'm currently...

    Loft dormer structural detail help

Your house seems a can of worms that has been subject to some WAG structural work. Is there any legitimate paperwork on the loft: any communication with BC? No SE is going to be able comment on your rambling description but work is work, and I'm sure you'll be able to get someone to design a...

    Rotating large man hole cover

You'll really need to get consent to change the cover if it is public (ie shared) though most peeps would do a straight quick switch of covers without bothering. Step 1 is to confirm private or shared. Then accept that the replacement cover is going to be in the same orientation as the original

    Preparing walls for paint

I'd pay safe and use Zinser primer bexause that old paint could easily be dusty. Then be prepared to fill again because what looked smooth will now show all manner of roughness. I now use Toupret ready mixed from Toolstation with a good wide knife. It's grand stuff: feathers to nothing then...
