    I suspect the reason there are no external lintels, is that when the house was constructed, the old timber window was sufficient to take the load as the house was being built. Now those have been replaced by plastic, the old timber windows with the structural element have gone with them.

    Mendip 12.5 degree tile is the sensible approach. You should also change your skylight to the velux low pitch model 10-20 degrees
