    Tory Leadership Race

HMRC recognises this as an issue, particularly where an estate is largely made up of property which also cannot be liquidated easily, and allow IHT to be deferred for 10 years. That’s probably enough time to sort out business assets, even at £20M.

Who uses Pagers these days anyway?

The second link quotes the medic as working at a Hezbollah hospital - so fily’s description of a ‘Hezbollah Medic’ doesn’t seem inaccurate.

Who uses Pagers these days anyway?

Why not just post the link and claim the win?

    Trouble at t' mill.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t think the article answered the headline.

Insulating under a suspended timber floor

I just used loft insulation between the rafters, and stapled roof membrane to the bottom of the rafters. But plenty of underfloor ventilation is key.

    Extension PIR insulation wrong size!

You’re going to struggle to get the boards to butt up tight to each other and you won’t be able to tape the joints. I’d be surprised if your Building Inspector accepts it.

    Nightmare customer won’t pay

She should be giving you an oppurtunity to fix the snags. Not redo all the work for 5% lessthan agreed. Write it off, or follow the advice about further action - but don’t get drawn into silly games.

    Nightmare customer won’t pay

Neither of you can claim professional fee’s as part of the claim in fhe small claim track (In a minority of the parking ticket claims Defendants have been able to claim £18/hr for their time, but usually when the parking company have been ‘unreasonable’). The process is so simple that...

    Surface drain blocked

Don’t rule out past bodges, even at the time of construction. I’ve just excavated a gully, expecting to connect my new extension into the surface water drain; only to find that I have a gully that isn’t connected to anything and all the rainwater has been draining into the soil right next to...

Build over agreement - Drain survey completed and not sure what to do now

See if Thames Water have a handy guide to help. This is a picture from the Welsh Water equivalent, with which I’m too familar!, but broadly if your neighbours have full width extensions they wouldn’t give permission for another full width extension and would expect space to be left for an...

buying small parcel of Land from the council.

Ok, but I believe that the Council shouldn’t waste Taxpayers money by compiling long and unnecessary explanations for decisions that they make, where that decision only affects a very small number of people. I understand that the issue may be important to you, but that doesn’t mean it’s worthy...

    Insualted plasterboard for extension

If you’ve got 100mm PIR in the cavity then you probably don’t need anything else internally.

Can Planning Authority revoke 'sign off' where applicant undertakes 'further development' specifically excluded from the permit

I doubt the Planning Oficers even check the BR sign off. In all likelihood the only way they ever know if something has been built differently to the application is if a disgruntled neighbour makes a complaint. The officer signing off the Building Regs is only interested is whether it has been...

Two 15 sq m sheds or one 30 sq m shed

I don’t think it needs to be 1m away and non-combustible, it’s one or the other up to 30sq/m

    Timber floor insulation from below

I did pretty much the same as AV. I filled my 7” joists with loft insulation, then stapled breathable membrane underneath to hold it in place. I’ve just done a large vaulted ceiling with PIR and that was tricky enough to get fitting tightly without the access restrictions. Edit - How about a...

    Welsh Water Build over agreement

The Welsh Water guidance is pretty clear in that it’s a ‘No’ within 500mm and the accepted solutions are move the manhole or change the building design. And if you want to move the manhole you need to use their approved contractors. When you say ‘right up to’ is that literally kissing the...

    Fixing plasterboard to steel beam?

I’ve just used them in 10mm steel. It was slightly quicker to pre-drill, but it was do-able with out. To drill the pilots I just used a 5mm Bosch drill bit from Screwfix and a Makita drill.

How to skim over foam core tile backer board

I went straight over the top. Took ages to dry.

    Openreach - Section 40 notice

We’re in the same boat as fourtytwo with an Openreach cable across our property. There’s enough slack on the pole to raise the cable a couple of metres easily, but OR want £900 to come out and provide a quote. Yes £900, not to do the job, but to put together a quote to then do the work. I...

Bifold Doors near corner of bungalow - Scotland

I’ve just had a look through section 1 of the Scottish Techical Handbook but it has very few references to absolute figures or dimensions, instead referring to a series of British Standards - and I’m not trawling through them! The 665mm minimum is only that in as such as most BCO’s would accept...
