    New bathroom mirror light needed.

Hi, I've looked at the suggested lights, and none of them charge (toothbrush) when the light is off. C.

Does anyone recognize this type of roof window with crank system?

Hi T, Does the handle wind freely, or does it just go round and round? I don't know the name of it, but it looks like if you pull that cable down it may close. C.

    New bathroom mirror light needed.

Hi J, I think this one is a Wickes type. The main fault is the bulb cover has two plastic protrusions, that poke into the fitting so it is switched off when removed, these have broken, I fixed them once, but it went out while I was having a bath so I'll get a new one. Also it is a filament...

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi, Don't do it this way: Turn off the heating. Wait for the pipes to cool. Cut the pipe (proper cutter) Thumb over the end. As my old pipes are steel, the olive didn't fit, so messing about allowed hot water to come out which was too hot to hold. I ran to get some thick rubber gloves, which...

Hi R, Good, I'll let you know what happens. Thanks all for your thoughts. C

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi, I looked round for High temperature isolating valves, and found some, here's a sentence from the gumph. Red Butterfly Full Bore Isolation Valves are typically used for hot water systems. The red colour is a universal indicator that the valve controls the flow of hot water within a system...

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi B, If they've been ok for 20 years, and my system is 30 years, and I'm XX years, I think they'll be ok, then. Although I don't like to leave a hidden job, for others to search for in years to come. What do you think freeze, or valves? C

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi M, The other end has gone through the radiator, so if I turn off the valves it should hold the water. Good point, are there any 'hot' valves? Ah gate valves!! Once they get scratched, or the 'sump' filled with crud, they fail. I've had many a happy hour cleaning/polishing them which...

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi M, I'm not sure, but I think that if the stiff old valve did work, he water would pull a vacuum and perhaps air would get in, so, I'm going to have a go with the stop valves (Screwfix) as suggested. C

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi M, Your statement was 'I take it it’s not one of those nasty fossil fuel burning heating systems then?' I replied No is is not not one of those nasty fossil fuel burning heating systems, so No, it is one. :) C

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi C, If this freezing method involves a coil around the pipe and a none 'green' gas being purged into the atmosphere, then I not keen. I'd like to know if my idea sounds possible, and if anyone else has used it. C

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi M, The system is full and hot, and I don't want to drain it. Previously I have used the way you suggest to fill the system, but never managed to get the air out without hours of fun. I want to cut into the system, without getting any air into it, for the above reason, so I want the gravity...

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

The only airbleeds are on the raiators, which I can't leave on, but go round bleeding all of them.

Adding radiator 'live' none pressurised system.

Hi T, When I refill the system, all of the air doesn't come out, because the water entering the system from the tank uses the same pipe as the air coming out. I pull it out with a car oil extractor pump, while switching the pump on/off. The 80s plumber wants a talking to! C

Rainwater drainage at front of Victorian terrace?

Hi R, I have a similar issue! The bay window and inside walls were cracking. I was trying to sell my house but the survey pointed out that the front roof rain water pipe wen nowhere. I traced the original ceramic pipe to the footpath. I asked my neighbour and he showed me his drain goes...
