    Help changing light fitting

That looks like brown to me. If so then it should be Brown - Live, Blue - Neutral, Green/Yellow - Earth. This represents what you have now (with the exception of no earth wire) so simply turn off the fuse for the lights, unscrew the blue/brown, move the earths to that earth terminal and add the...

    Help changing light fitting

Red seems like an odd colour of choice for a new light fitting. Do you have a picture, make/model of the fitting? From your existing fitting from the left you have 3 black neutral wires, 4 red live wires and then 1 black switched live. mark that single black wire as switched live so you do not...

Wired alarm that links to smart home

Most professional/graded alarm systems could be classed as modular. Honeywell Flex has inbuilt facilities for camera PIR but I doubt the quality is great and these are indoor cameras. Its often best to have separate alarm, CCTV systems and integrate them in someway. What integration with your...

    Loose double socket

In order to fit the dry lining box you first need to make sure the hole is deep enough for it 35mm deep should be enough with a little room to spare. Assuming it fits, you would need to take the cable into the wall through the back of the trunking and then up inside the dry lining box. You will...

What fuse for WarmUp underfloor heating system?

The installation manual appears to be generic for all their models. Using the table for your particular model, as you say its 2.6a so install a 3a fuse. Assume this is also RCD protected as per the instructions?

    Smart meters?

There are some energy monitoring products that do read gas meters but that all depends on your gas meter and what output it has (optic, RJ45, etc..)

    Smart meters?

Indeed this does seem a bit archaic but I barely get a meter man out once a year. By law this is meant to be at least once every two years but I suspect they want to visit some households/neighbourhoods more frequently due to failure to provide accurate/frequent readings or suspected tampering...

    Smart meters?

I'm sure I have seen you can opt out of certain usage tracking to enable energy companies to only produce a basic analysis of your usage. This is probably due to those complaining about tracking, spying, selling of the information (which the latter isn't far off what could happen). Data is very...

    rewiring socket ring main

Again this really isn't the right/common stuff for domestic installations. Do you know if this stuff is 1.5mm, 2.5mm or 4mm? Assuming its latest colour code blue+brown? What's the reason you are rewiring? You will probably find this stuff is not so easily passed through joists, around bends...

    Cutting length of extension lead?

I agree with iggifer, don't get the cheapo ones! After a short while the plastic becomes so brittle it will break with the gentlest of pressure resulting in a potentially dangerous situation.

    rewiring socket ring main

This isn't typical cable for this application, this is usually fire alarm, emergency lighting cable etc... Is it solid or stranded cable? Did you really mean rewiring the ring main or are you just adding a socket somewhere? If rewiring, then by your opening post this is not a job for you.

    Cutting length of extension lead?

I was meaning when stripping the outer insulation that you don't cut into the inner/individual insulation. Also when stripping the individual wires you don't cut off any strands of copper.

    Smart meters?

You will not instantly save any energy/money by having one installed. If anything you might spend a few extra £/p by plugging in the display to see the usage. However they can highlight usage patterns and maybe make you more aware of your usage but unless your the kind of household leaving...

    Loose double socket

First would be to stop using it or putting any unnecessary strain on it with plugs etc... Is there a massive hole at the back of that socket as it looks like that plasterboard plug has absolutely nothing to go into or ever had. Or maybe its lathe and plaster.... anyway do you have enough space...

Salus ST620WBC control that came with Worcester Boiler

Hopefully the plumber will fit you a suitable thermostat to your requirement, so be sure to mention what you want it to do before its purchased so there's no confusion. Also don't be afraid to ask them to show you how to use it, change settings etc.. should you need (take notes) :D.

Salus ST620WBC control that came with Worcester Boiler

Unless I missed something you or your plumber is suggesting that its faulty when it sounds like its just lost connection since the batteries died, if this is the case its not faulty and the fix will cost you nothing. The problem you mentioned where the thermostat is going back into auto mode is...

    shower switch burning out

If its 10kw then a 20a switch is not suitable. Report back on what mcb you have anyway but you will need a 45/50a switch based on the 10kw shower. Have you always had this rating shower or have you upgraded/changed at some point?

    Cutting length of extension lead?

My reason for explicitly asking was to clarify intention. Some people use different terms for things whereas the person might of meant chase into the wall meaning secure in trunking, cut a hole in plasterboard and feed behind it etc... Also if they really was chasing and plastering, I would of...

Salus ST620WBC control that came with Worcester Boiler

While yes it can be complicated things can be learnt. Did the plumber give any reasoning behind his recommendation not to use it? If your happy with replacing something that possibly doesn't need replacing for something simpler then its best knowing what you want from a thermostat BEFORE buying...

    Cutting length of extension lead?

Yes you can alter the length of an extension as long as your confident in wiring a plug and stripping the outer insulation so you don't nick the inner insulation. Just make sure to cut the wires to the correct lengths and tighten the terminals etc... Are you burying this into a wall and...
