I possess a "Dremel" type tool, so would cut a slot right at the bottom of that lug, drill a clearance hole all the way through the back for the screw and glue a nut in the slot. If I didn't have a nut I'd salvage a lug from a metal back box (50p from Screwfix).

The ground level looks high and that pink render looks low, I wouldn't rush into anything without a thorough investigation. For £2.8k, as a diyer I'd expect to sort the render, ground level, drainage, replace all the paving and extend the patio in front of the french doors.

If you're just fixing a few strips up the wall to form the sides of your "box" then no nails will do it.

Drop them on some hangars or sit on a ledger and connect to your rafters with plywood sheathing.

Buy some "self amalgamating" tape, ideal for repairing that - it fuses together as you apply it.
