Thanks for the ideas, it needs to be small and light, something like an old tape deck, press to open and press to shut, if that makes sense.

Hello all I'm looking for some type of small spring mechanism that will open once released, hopefully, it can then be pressed back down and it will stay shut, until the next time it is pressed. I have been googling but not sure what to type in. Any help gratefully received.
