Have I got a bad alternator?

It's a 17 year old car so not a fancy alternator. When I did the test yesterday it had a short run beforehand then after about 10 minutes with the engine off I just took a reading then started the engine to test the alternator. The car has hardly been used lately, just a mile or 2 every other...

Have I got a bad alternator?

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure how to check what's happening. I did disconnect the battery as soon as I got back from a short drive. And about half hour later it read 12.80. I'll check again tomorrow. I noticed the other day the radio turned itself on! But that wasn't the case today?

Any suggestions how to break in to my own car?

Yep. The wires into the alternator are on the top so it had to be the starter. Wasn't very easy. Cheers

Any suggestions how to break in to my own car?

Ta for that. Be handy if I can clamp onto them as well. To keep a hand free for the key fob. Cheers

Any suggestions how to break in to my own car?

That would be handy but I might have to wait a while to get someone to come over. But as my torx keys and VW jack are in the boot I might need a few days to get all the bits I need. :)

Any suggestions how to break in to my own car?

Thanks for that. Hopefully I can see the alternator/starter from underneath, and see the wires leading to them. I've got some twin and earth I presume would be ok. Would a car battery charger work in place of a jump pack? I mean the ones you would leave them charging for hours.

Any suggestions how to break in to my own car?

I saw a couple of videos about that this evening. Air wedge they're called apparently. You have to prize it open a little to start with apparently. I might see if I can in the morning. Not sure what to use as a jemmy though.

Any suggestions how to break in to my own car?

Not a member. I might end up having to get a breakdown company out I suppose. The boot doesn't have a lock unfortunately.

Any suggestions how to break in to my own car?

Hello I left the car at a friend's house for a couple of weeks. Thinking I was being clever I disconnected the battery in case the alarm went off. When I tried to open it with the physical key it didn't work. I remember a couple of years ago the door handle wouldn't work which I put down to the...

Anyone know about the new road tax prices?

Cheers. Would have been good if there was an online calculator where you enter your number plate and got a price.
