A voluntary ID card is fine - mandatory carrying of it inevitably leads to identifying yourself on demand, and IMO not OK.. But then the ID card itself is not the real problem..it is the NIR database behind the card that is a system capable of tracking a person's movement's by registering...

There is a difference between being able to identify yourself and carrying an identity card..

But not the way it is proposed it will work...and even the 'root ID' is at risk if it were to work as suggested!

What experience?.. NO other country either has or is proposing to bring in an ID system backed up by an NIR - fact!...Even the chinese have said that a similar system was against basic human rights! And no other nation uses the security you are suggesting...and if they did, can you tell me...

Not only that, but the ID system database was intended to be linked to every government department. So if the computer (or government) says 'no' then you can 'officially' not exist! Then try and live your life!

No, it shows you are entitled to healthcare in the EU. If it were simply to show that you are a citizen of an EU (also EEA) state, then would not a passport/travel ID card suffice?

So...(taking this 'discussion' at face value) Is there anything in there that says the EU is driving the UK passport/ID card systems as regards a database/tracking or use of any biometric other than a photo? At the heart of the EU is Germany, and for historical reasons they will not allow...

But you will have had to have given your name/address and then it would have been ticked off the list. So what I'm asking is that does it make it right that in future those without ID will be electorally disenfranchised?

The route to that 'dangerous direction' has already been mapped out... But sadly the dumb sheeple don't seem to care!

ID cards are by no means a novelty in the Netherlands. But the Dutch were always told that they would never be obliged to carry them. Then came 1 January 2005. And that 'bit of plastic' is not the point of the system in th UK.. Everytime you use that bit of plastic it will be recorded on...
