central heating from a log burner

Yes that's what it will do, question was what will it achieve? What problem does it solve?

central heating from a log burner

You don't need the heat loss rad in the same way you don't need lifeboats on a passenger ship. In theory a correctly designed and maintained wet woodburner system could boil dry without risk of injury to bystanders. The process would be noisy, messy and expensive but shouldn't kill anyone. The...

central heating from a log burner

WTF is the radiator breather going to achieve? The flow/return to that rad are now correct (remember flow pipe should be slightly uphill to the rad, return should be slightly downhill from the rad)

    Repairing GRP Valley Board

Yes you need top coat on it, mat and resin is a bit porous. Don't forget acetone wash after you've sanded.

    Feeding Rads from log burner

Midnight requisition is the only method that springs to mind. Coal used to be easier (NCB donkey jacket, shoddy tipper van, drive into pit yard, load up, drive out).

central heating from a log burner

Yes. And the tank needs to be open (as in open vent system) and be full (well half full) of water- detail not shown on the generic drawing is a mains cold water supply to a metal ball valve in the tank and an overflow from the tank (usually through the eaves and into a gutter - don't let it just...

central heating from a log burner

Because that rad will be emitting heat while the woodburner is hot and there's no other thermal load on the system. If you want to put it in a bedroom then carry on but since you cannot switch the rad off you may end up with a very hot room.

central heating from a log burner

The heat loss radiator has to be there to maintain the thermosyphon (so that even if power is off there is still a temperature difference between flow and return so water will continue to circulate and remove heat from the woodburner). If you can position the heat loss rad so it can perform its...

central heating from a log burner

Neither. You need at least 1 heat sink (radiator) in the system

You aren't that far from Wales. You could always nip across the border and do some coal smuggling :)

If you are curious you should probably try and find the actual legislation. That guidance says house coal cannot be sold for use in homes. Which eliminates anywhere where people live. Says nowt about addresses. But do look at the actual legislation.

central heating from a log burner

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/selling-coal-for-domestic-use-in-england Is fairly straightforward. Looks as if you could get coal supplied to a non-residential address (a factory maybe).

Did you use the big button on the homepage? The one that says 'Purchase Safefill via our dealer network'?

central heating from a log burner

Yes they manufacture (or import, whatever). There's a list of suppliers on there, Google one near you for their website & look on there for pricing.

central heating from a log burner

Yep, thats exactly the plan & vehicle LPG was a LOT cheaper than Calor etc. Calor etc does get cheaper if you have bigger bottles.

    Strange boiler behaviour

Anything behind that cover is Gas Safe territory, advice on such stuff is not permitted on here. Stuff you can do- keep an eye on system pressure (if it isn't a pressurised system then tie the ballvalve on the f & e tank up and see if the level drops over time). If pressure is steady/tank level...

central heating from a log burner

House coal is banned for domestic use in England now. LPG you can fill at the petrol stationBottled gas- yes it has gone mad. Have a look at these or similar if bottled gas is a permanent requirement . Again not done the sums recently, looked about 5 years ago and i would have been in profit...

central heating from a log burner

And your burner only having 2 ports on it reinforces what i suspected about it being quite low thermal output- possibly intended to only heat a Domestic Hot Water (DHW) cylinder. Re the sketch. You REQUIRE the Feed & Expansion tank (must be metal) to operate that wet woodburner. If you only...

central heating from a log burner

https://www.confusedaboutenergy.co.uk/technical-zone/domestic-fuels/fuel-prices.php Interesting - price/performance ratios have changed significantly since i last did these sums. Which is odd. Gas price has doubled since i did these sums, smokeless cost has nearly doubled, firewood don't know...

central heating from a log burner

Google broken over there is it? https://www.pentlandbiomass.com/2022/03/31/firewood-vs-central-heating/ That sketch shows a hot water cylinder. If you want hot water heated by your woodburner you'll need a dhw cylinder. There may be unvented dhw cylinders that are approved for direct...
