Water butt - those 200L ex-commercial barrels question

The white/clear ones aren't great for water storage, you'll get more algae cos the light can get to the water. You need to cut the top off, you can reuse it as a cover though. I've got some as "dunkers" and some with scrap household taps

Fixing wooden fence posts to wooden fence rails.

Seems a bit extreme to pay someone to come in and help you with your posts. And what about the fence, will he have a look at that too?

Fixing wooden fence posts to wooden fence rails.

If you wanted a bracket like that, you could easily make them out of builders metalwork. Take a flat strap, cut to length, couple bends in a vice. That would answer your question - but probably not the best way to repair your fence? Have you looked at post repair spurs?

    Conifers pruned

I have my doubts it's Leyland Cypress, by the shape of the branches. It's not an invasive species - it's sterile! It's just a fast growing hybrid tree.

Best thing for that is cheap green fence paint and a sprayer.

    Alternative or Compatible Powertools

For infrequent use, mains powered is probably a better bet, keep watching lidl and aldi if you're not in a rush. I bought a lidl router for £30 quite a few years ago, and it's fine for diy use.

    Measuring Chimney height

Here's a totally random house I just found on streetview. Look at the brown wheelie bin by the wall. 240l bins are approx 1m tall. So the gable end up to the top of that ridge is approx 7.5m high

    Measuring Chimney height

I would just use the turny stick method where you stand back, hold a stick, turn it round, measure to the spot on the ground. OR Stand back and take a photo, with something in the photo of a known height, you can use that as a scale and count the height (you might even be able to do this off...

Levelling an eco base for shed

Is there no way of compacting the middle high spot with tamper etc? To me, 5mm is nothing on a shed really, it will settle down over time

Is wood burning in the garden legal in UK?

    OSB TG4 prices - what's the difference???

I used to do work for one place where they had a Travis Perkins account, they didn't get any discount, the prices were mental. Would often be double what other suppliers were, but the person/people paying the bill seemed blissfully unaware, and wouldn't take advice.

    Are decking "kits" any good?

Unless specified otherwise, "treated" timber will be the cheapest treatment. If it's a decent concrete foundation look putting down paving on it. It will be less of a step up on to it, less slippery, and will outlast any timber by decades.
