    Shed light can't see!!!

As much as I love fluorescent lighting (username & avatar checks out), I'd probably say an LED bulkhead like the one linked to below would be great in a 8x4 shed. If you have a work bench in there too, maybe add a fluorescent light directly over the bench too on a separate switch. The LED will...

    4 Core Flat Grey Cable

Red yellow & blue is the 'old' 3 phase cable colours, the neutral would be black if this cable had one. FYI the new EU compliant colours are brown black & grey with blue as the neutral. I wonder why many people don't like the new colours!!

    Connecting a 2D bulb

Both the original Kengo (they're crap, BTW) ballast and the replacement ballast you've fitted are for a 28w 2D lamp. Best guess is the '16w max' sticker is erroneous

    Connecting a 2D bulb

A Tridonic PC 1x26W BASIC will run a 28w 2D lamp, which is the lamp you should have fitted. Any other wattage is either going to kill the ballast or lamp prematurely. There is no point changing to LED from T5 HF IMHO.

    LED Tubes replacing Fluorescent's

This. Most of my house is LED (with a few CFLs still in use), but I've got several 50+ year old magnetically ballasted fluorescent lights in my garage with T12 tubes I'm not planning on changing any time soon. All I've done to them is fit electronic starters to prolong the life of the tubes and...

    Earth connection on wall sockets

There should be a link fitted between the cores in the earth terminal of the backbox to the socket front. I would strongly advise you get an EICR completed on your property. This will not have been done with a basic inspection for your mortgage

    Replacing downlighters

GU10 mains voltage lamps fit in MR16 lamp holders. The (electrical) socket does not fit, but these can be changed and the transformer removed from the circuit

    Replacing downlighters

Whilst many electricians now-a-days install fire rated downlights everywhere regardless of whether required or not (as "best practice"), if the room they are installed in is not considered a fire compartment under IEE electrical regulations, they do not need to be. Note that downstairs is...

    Vent-Axia VASF100T

You've either taken the permanent live from the light instead of switched, or if you haven't adjusted the timer, these are set to 15 minutes from the factory which is quite long. Does the fan come on with the light, or does it start up as soon as power is restored?

    Flourescent tube.

As previously said, your room is quite large and one single 4ft fitting isn't enough. You cannot make the existing fitting any brighter. Rewiring it for an LED tube would not yield a significant lux level increase, if any at all, in fact it'd more likely be lower. You need to replace the fitting...

    Electric Shower Help Please.

Not saying it's 100% guaranteed to be the cause of every burnt up connection in a shower switch, but I still stand by my advice. If the switch is a bit loose in the ceiling as they sometimes are, pulling that (usually stiff) switch repeatedly every day could certainly cause the connections to...

    Electric Shower Help Please.

Good work. FYI if you isolate the shower after every use, you may want to consider stopping doing that as is it may be what causes loose connections over a period of time

Vaillant Turbomax 828 Intermittent F.28 When Cold

Many thanks. The gas goes to the boiler only, and is only a short run of about 2 metres from the isolator valve outside. It's worth mentioning this pipework is only 15mm which I'm lead to believe is on the small side, but it's never been an issue before so can't think it's suddenly an issue now...

Vaillant Turbomax 828 Intermittent F.28 When Cold

I did the re-plumb, flow and return pretty much all replaced (in copper) along with new rads. I also fitted a new diverter valve. A friend of a friend who formerly worked for British Gas then fitted the new igniter. They also serviced it and checked gas pressures etc which were all fine...

Vaillant Turbomax 828 Intermittent F.28 When Cold

Hi all, Just wondering before we throw more money at this boiler if anyone has seen this issue before. I already know that F.28 is failure to ignite, and I have witnessed this happen a couple of times now. Note that this *only* happens when the boiler has not been used for several hours and it...
