    is this a Victorian terrace.? Not sure if you are kent but upto last week mine each side was supported by 2 8x3" wooden beam from outside wall to internal wall then a 5mm steel plate over them to the stack. between the stack was a wood support

    Cold roof ventilation

    snap thats what i was told fit with silver foil also. I was told this, ie, 50mm gap, then the insulation, then foil, then 50mm gap then 9mm plaster board, the a 3mm skim. All this is the cold side of the roof!!

    wow i had to put in 90mm in mine with a 50mm gap. Spend the money and go up if you can space wise

    Thought Id do this as a new thread Usual thing need the space could not afford to move so here we go Basically i realised that i should be able to do it myself saving ££, Took a recommendation of a structural engineer whom designed the loft with no steel work only for the Chimney support...

    Hidden fixing shelf, heavy loads.

    If you have it I'd use box or angle fixed to the alcove, just drill through and bolt to the wall. Fit wood on top and then finish the front off with a trim piece so it covers the frame
