    LG Plasma TV broken

Recapping ... people seem to make a lot of fuss over removing non-reusable caps. Not clear to me why they can't just dremel it off - cut the head and unsolder the legs. Perhaps there is concern about pulling the pads off?

    LG Plasma TV broken

The TV is not for me. Just need something that switches on and watch. Others also mentioned fire tv.

    LG Plasma TV broken

Says I need a resistor to discharge capacitors. But, doesn't say what size.

    LG Plasma TV broken

Youtube is my go to. It seems to know what I need and it's a mind reader. First one it gave me after a nap is how to check caps.

    LG Plasma TV broken

I am looking at an LG 42PX5D-EB AEKLLJP TV. It appears to work giving me access to the on screen menu, etc. But it is showing no signal from the aerial and SCART sockets. The aerial is confirmed to have signal on another TV. Going by youtbue videos, I suspect capacitors are gone on the...

    Adding aerial socket

It seems inevitable the signal scheme would allow for a range of impedances. Splitting the cable may not necessarily take the impedance out of range. The only way to find out is to do it. I was on the verge of doing it before being short circuited by the non-necessity of it. Perhaps another...

    Adding aerial socket

Cool. Can't say I understand it. If the impedance reduces (or dampens like a car shock absorber) the received signal, the correction is to increase the signal strength. Since the area I am in has strong signal, any impedance I add would not be sufficient to cause the complete loss of the signal...

    Adding aerial socket

People here were not wrong. I gained lots of great tips. The next time I need to do a socket of some type, I will know what to do.

    Adding aerial socket

Thank you all. The project has been canceled. TV signals have come a long way since the last time I contended with them 15-20 years ago. The signals in the area are so strong that I would have gotten something if I stuck my finger into the aerial socket. All mini indoor aerials work. The loft...

    Adding aerial socket

I am curious, what would happen if I did do it? What end-user effects would I see? BTW, it would have worked. Explanation to follow.

    Micra fuel tank leak

If you already know then why do you need me to explain it to you? Don't be wasting my time. This thread is finished, and I have other projects to attend to. So, stop posting.

    Adding aerial socket

Yes, I am already thinking about that for another reason. I want to take out the box and check the surroundings. Then push a rod upwards. I won't care where the rod reappears in the loft. The random path chosen by the rod can then be used for the cable. I have a couple of rod options. I think...

    Adding aerial socket

I could, but I still hope to make it look tidy and "regular". Do I need a box at all? Can I just drill a hole in the ceiling and drop the cable down and connect to the TV directly?

    Adding aerial socket

I will run a test first then I will know if splitting causes problems. Firstly, I could run two cables directly to the aerial. The aerial is in the loft. Secondly, I could just use electrical crimps for the split and then solder - solder to increase conductivity. Are there any regulations...

    Micra fuel tank leak

I never aimed to be, though. I can't stop you thinking it, nor would I try. I don't really think about it. I post to solve practical problems that produces a return on effort. Legend isn't required. But quick and cheap is.

    Adding aerial socket

Thanks. All good tips. 5 years worth of TV is still worth it. It's not for me (I only watch youtube), but for my mother. Not possible to have anything complicated, or I will get support calls frequently. The existing signals are good. It would degrade with a T splitter? In that case, I better...
