    Advice for dormer window leak.

Ok understood thanks. Just me being a bit dense. As the others have said it shouldn't be too difficult to find out where the water is getting through once the tiles are lifted but your previous roofer should have sorted it out. The lack of mortar may well be an issue in heavy driving rain and...

    Advice for dormer window leak.

Sorry I'm confused. Where do you see the leak in that last photo? Is your dormer the same as those in the background? Can you get a photo of the sides of the dormer where it meets the roof? In your first post you said the leak was directly below the dormer window, yet you also said you made a...

i could be wrong but doesn't photo 5 show the skirt having come unstuck from the fibreglass?

Float and set or dot and dab?

Wouldn't you fix battens to the wall, packed as required, with polythene behind packers, and screw your plasterboard to the battens? You would probably need a polythene membrane behind the plasterboard too.

    Attaching joists to existing bearers.

The 2 x 2 would rest on top of and run perpendicular to the current 4x2's along the eaves. Your new 5x2 joists would be fixed to your new 6x2 at one end and rest on top of the 2x2 at the eaves end. If the top of the 5x2 is level with the top of your new 6x2, you would have to notch the end of...

    Attaching joists to existing bearers.

No I meant can you physically get 4.4m long timbers upstairs and into the loft? If you can, then your idea seems reasonable to me, but I'm no expert. However, you'll also need to add a 6x2 on top of the 4x2's at the eaves.... or better maybe just a 2x2 with your 5x2's notched and resting on top...

    Attaching joists to existing bearers.

Are the 6x2's built into the walls at each end? Would you be able to get a full length timber (approx 4.5m?) into the space?

loose floorboards on top of pipes

Could you make the notches in your joists just a little deeper so the pipes will move down a few mm? Or you could notch out the underside of the board that's resting on them so it just clears them. You should screw the boards down, but make sure you don't hit any pipes or cables!

    Bathmaster Deltis Bathlift

All I can come up with is that the intention is to fix the back rest to the tube to give more strength to the back rest. The screws clamp the unit to the tube, and the brackets that are moulded into the back rest then have to be secured to the clamped unit. I think that's what the "wing nuts"...

Mounting a diy pullup bar question

I'd be thinking about using verticals, but maybe they don't need to be as thick as 45mm. The trouble is the screws will tend to bend as you hang. If you used say 25mm, the screws into the frame will be less likely to bend. Or you could fix a hanging plate to the back of the timber at the top and...

Mounting a diy pullup bar question

Well using the 4 x 2 as a spacer, and with the additional offset of the bar, you've got quite a long lever on your screws, which could lead to loosening/slippage/bending. My suggestion was to use vertical 4x2, with solid fixings towards the top end, and then the flange only needs to screw into...

Mounting a diy pullup bar question

Doesn't seem like a great arrangement to me. You are going to put a lot of twisting force into the 4x2, which is in turn pulling on the frame. I would expect to see cracks develop in time. If you cut your 4x2 in half, and screwed it vertically to each side, with fixings into the frame nearest...

Leaking lawnmower and mowing a lawn

Try not to let the petrol leak onto the grass. Whenever I get a spill during filling damages the grass quite badly.

    Pinning back this cable

Whatever you use, make sure it can't chafe or cut into the cables at all. While you've got the ladder up there, check out your roof, it appears there's stuff growing up there that shouldn't be.

    repairing rainwater drain (pictures)

See if you can get a hosepipe into the main run - send some water down and see if it runs away ok. If it does, then you could try concrete - it won't last forever but might give you a few years.

    repairing rainwater drain (pictures)

It doesn't look good. Is it just rainwater coming down that pipe? I'm not sure but it may have a trap - can you feel where the pipe becomes sound again? I wouldn't have thought concrete was the answer. I think you'll need to dig it all up and replace with new, which could be a bit of a...

    Rad is cold.

I'm not clear on the setup. Which of the pipes in the first picture is the flow from the boiler? And which is the return back to the boiler? Also check there aren't any hidden isolation valves anywhere.
