Possible air lock in central heating system

You could try unscrewing the top nut of the valve directly above the pump to release any trapped air in the pump. Or any of the nuts on the system for that matter.

need help on how to board my loft

Wouldn't it be best to lay your boards on top of the steel trusses which leaves you a good space underneath for your extra insulation. The tricky bit is how you join the boards on the thin edge of the truss.

    sorting out an old floor

Chances are there's no dpm under the concrete bit. Is there a damp proof course in the outer walls? Best thing, I think, would be to dig it all out and fit a ventilated, insulated timber floor. Big job though.

Can somone help with air in central heating problem cheers

Have you bled the system? Where did all the air come from that caused the problem last time? Maybe the pump only needed replacing because of all the air. I guess the system is clean, but maybe they didn't drain the system when they changed the pump. You need to check that the system is filling...

    Noisy air filled system

Thanks Mick, that did the job! All moving around nicely now, apart from one drop. Need to investigate. Thanks again. Winter can come now.

    Noisy air filled system

Ok, but first, the inside of the isolation valve on the old cold feed pipe.... When I drained the tank, I let it drain through the system, it went down very slowly. I don't think any extra crud got through. Clean FE tank.... (now refilled!) New pipework.... When I try to...

    Noisy air filled system

Resurrecting this thread from a couple of weeks ago... new problem. I repiped the vent and feed pipe, took off a few radiators and hosed them out - generally seemed ok. Cleaned the FE tank. Fitted a Spirotech MB3 to the return near the boiler. Turned it all on, set it to heat water, pump...

    Triton T300si losing low Pressure

£150 call-out! 6 years old - probably round about life expectancy no? It sounds like it's the shower unit to me. Could be an issue with the flow adjustment - it's not opening up properly so not enough water's getting through, so then the elements would cut out. Just guessing though...

    Noisy air filled system

It was going well, I have re- done the pipework, but when clearing up noticed a puddle at the back of the tank. It seems the connection to the top of the coil has been leaking for some time. When I apply a bit of torque to the top nut, I can see the back "washer" rotate too. I can't...

    Noisy air filled system

Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully a relatively easy fix then. Draining as I type. Will let you know how it goes.

    Noisy air filled system

Ok heres a diagram to show how it all connects. Does this explain why the system seems to constantly cycle air bubbles (even when on hot water only)? As I understand radiators were added several years ago to replace a system of night storage heaters. Any thoughts please?

Is the third one ok then?

    Noisy air filled system

In my new house the hot water and heating system are very noisy. As soon as the pump starts you can hear bubbles moving around. I'm not sure if it's all set up properly, although I guess it's been like this for several years. The boiler is an external mounted oil boiler. The central...

    Cut wood silently???

How many of these 4x4's do you need to cut and what are they for? You might get some more helpful replies if you explain and fill in the blanks. Who do you fear that the neighbours will complain to? Clearly they must be very unreasonable, but you are allowed to make noise. You must be just...

I agree. Best not to leave carcasses of dead birds under the sink.

plaster board or render around corner by multi stove?

The stove information should show what clearances are required around the sides and back. The building regulations indicate the requirements for hearth construction and nearest combustible surfaces (plastic capping and plasterboard are not non-combustible). Drawings/details submitted to...

    Best 50mm insulation material

OP, I think you will find your method very flawed when you try it out. There's no guarantee the rafters will be parallel, or wont have nail heads sticking out or other obstacles. I also doubt you'll get the "flex" you'd need to slot the boards in, unless you cut them into small pieces. You...

    What shower power?

    OK thanks.

    What shower power?

Yes we are. The cable goes into the ceiling space, then up inside an internal wall and into the loft. Of course it might be wrapped in insulation and laid against a hot pipe, but again, I can only assume it's ok as the house hasn't exploded or burnt down yet. Thanks.

    What shower power?

I am replacing a 9.5kW shower without RCD protection with a 9.5kW shower without RCD protection. That is like for like. Upping the breaker to 40A seems like a good idea to reduce the likelihood of overheating, which presumably didn't happen with the previous owner and a 32A breaker. I will...
