    What shower power?

Thripster, this is a new house. I rewired the old place completely, following much advice from here, and with consultation from a proper spark. It was fully tested and signed off with no problems. If the breaker starts to overheat, I will consider the alternatives, but I am simply replacing a...

    What shower power?

Well I have ordered the 9.5kW shower now already. As far as I am concerned, I am simply replacing like for like, which appeared to have been ok for some time. I will take on board what you say, and check for any overheating at the breaker. The shower won't be heavily or frequently used. If it...

    What shower power?

Thanks for all your replies. I appreciate the maths too! Yes I am happy to change the breaker and it's back piece. I don't think I'll get an RCBO to fit the old Wylex CU, I like to live dangerously. Thanks again.

    What shower power?

Oh alright then, I'll also order a B40 breaker. Thanks again.

    What shower power?

Thanks for your advice John. I think I will go for the 9.5 and hope the current set up will suffice. Can I ask what the label on the old unit means where it says "Supply 240V 9.5kW, Loading 230V 8.7kW. ? Many thanks.

    What shower power?

Well thanks for the replies, but those aren't the answers I want. I've only been in this place for a couple of weeks, and the shower's been used maybe 10 times and I don't suspect the previous owner of doing anything dodgy with it when he moved out. So the 9.5kW shower has been working...

    What shower power?

I need to replace my leaking and slightly melted electric shower. It's a Newlec NL9216 Calypso Plus. The label on the top gives a supply rating of 9.5kW and a loading rating of 8.7kW. The supply cable is 6mm, only 5m long and not through insulation. Protected by a B32 Wylex breaker. I think a...

    Scooter Running Problem

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm not ignoring you I just can't muster up the enthusiasm to mess about with it any further at the moment. But I'm still looking for ideas as to why the new plug won't spark but the old one will (yes it's identical, yes i've tried two new ones) Also why it's...

    Scooter Running Problem

Thanks John - yes it sounds and feels like fuel starvation. But I don't think it is. I've taken the carb apart a couple of times. It's as clean as a whistle, the float works, the needles are clean.... I've also tried two new spark plugs - neither of them get a spark, but the old one does...

    Scooter Running Problem

Thanks for your thoughts. What I'm sort of stuck on is the spark. When I connect the old plug and lay it on the cylinder, I get a spark, visible in daylight. When I put the new one in, I get nothing. What could make this happen? It doesn't have a manual choke. Is that the tall...

    Scooter Running Problem

I know this isn't a scooter forum, but I'm sure there are plenty of expert mechanics around here. I have a Chinese 50cc 2 stroke scooter. It's about 3yrs old and done around 3000 miles. I replaced the cylinder and piston recently, following a seizure after it had been running really well, and...

    Blocks for outside steps

Well if you're dismantling the existing walls and steps, you'll be able to use the rubble to fill the void. Or am I misunderstanding you?

    Steel Reinfoced Ledger

If you can access the gap from the top, you could/should use a proper Steel erectors baseplate grout, but it'll be messy stopping it dribbling out of the bottom.

    thin Sadolin

Just re-read your post - why did you stain it first, and what did you stain it with? The Sadolin itself is a stain, so perhaps trying to overcoat a stain with Sadolin is the main problem.

    thin Sadolin

Sadolin Extra is a top coat. I think you should have applied a coat or two of Sadolin Classic first. But it won't build up to a thick finish like paint. It stays thin and translucent. It's pretty good stuff though - easy to recoat once it starts getting flaky. I bought 2.5 L of Classic and 2.5...

Do I need to fit an extractor in cloakroom?

Ok thanks. No shower, but perhaps a bit less than 5%. Not going to lose sleep over it. Ta.

    Boxing in Vent Pipe

Thanks for the info. I will leave it clear. I suspect it was condensation from a very poor boxing in effort, and the glassfibre got saturated and never really dried out. In winter I suppose the pipe surface would be quite cold. But that's a guess. It could also be leaking from the roof tile...

Do I need to fit an extractor in cloakroom?

The cloakroom has a small opening window above the toilet. Do regulations require that I have to fit an extractor too? Thanks for any advice.
