    Asbestos anxiety

Normal pink / brown plaster does not contain asbestos. That said the dust is not good for you so wearing a, mask is the way to go. It's the same for any fine dust be it brick, sawdust or even talcum powder {like my mum smothered me in as a baby!) Don't worry you haven't condemned yourself and...

Gas bonding - is my incoming gas pipe PE?

I must admit to being confused by cross bonding, seems they don't bond stainless sinks now and although my service is plastic the sparks in fact bonded to my gas meter outlet. It seems sensible to me to have all services cross bonded as well as things like a sink so everything is connected...

How to repair this leaky joint between the toilet P-trap and soil pipe?

What you have is a toilet pan connector which has an internal seal (see attached) the seal has leaked and it has been bodged with silicone. You can try bodging it again but chances are slim it will work. you need to remove the paneling and see what sort of connector you have then replace it, if...

Probably a daft question: bicycle sized dust caps on car wheels?

Sounds like a faulty valve to me, dust cap is just that, to keep dirt out. Take it back to the garage, Just say it is loosing pressure.

Replacing existing 30 year old double glazing - worth it?

"Security - when glazed from the outside the retaining beading which is clipped in place, not bonded is on the outside so 'naire-do-wells' can easily and quietly remove a glazed panel to gain entry to your house." Possibly true in some very old systems, but most external glazing bars are...

Replacing existing 30 year old double glazing - worth it?

No, chances are you will see no improvement unless there are any real problems with your existing. Handles are easily replaced if needed and any blown panels can be replaced by a glazier, most will come out a bit over £100, a lot cheaper than the thousands new units will cost.

    Biden has stepped down

Sad to say it, but there will be potential Democrat voters that don't want a woman and voters that don't want another black president. If they want to beat the Trump bandwagon they cannot afford to alienate any voters, a non controversial safe pair of hands needed if they want to stand any chance.

    Midgies in the garden problem

First thing is to check for any standing water, the fry live in it and can often be seen coming up for air. Water butts, water features without fish, watering cans, plant pot saucers, in fact anywhere an inch or so of water can collect. Empty where possible, water butts seal any gaps in the lid...

    Crack repair

Quite disappointed no one suggested polystyrene tiles, surely the ideal solution!:giggle: For anyone in the same boat I decided to stitch screw it on alternate sides, an impact driver beds them well into the existing plaster and flakes a few loose bits off too. Going to try some Ronseal "super"...

Hi all, I have a crack in my bathroom ceiling, I have filled and painted a number of times, but guess what it comes back! This morning I decided to bite the bullet and cut out a couple of inches wide back to the plasterboard and insert skim before repairing. Having started I can see someone has...

    Laptop issue

Total guess, but I wonder if the laptop needs slightly more power to boot up than run. Might be the battery although showing charge is in fact slightly low on the voltage it is putting out. Can you remove and test the battery voltage with a meter?

    Saving my pond

Frogs don't live in ponds much they only hang around them in damp areas and use the pond only when getting fruity with lady frogs. Tadpoles might suffer but chances are Freddy will be OK as said a bit of a water change will be a good idea anyway. Pop the hose in at just a trickle for a couple of...
