    Gas cooker installed incorrectly

I read it specifically as him saying the point about the 2 pin plug had nothing to do with the cooker.

    Gas cooker installed incorrectly

Pretty sure John made clear it had nothing to do with the cooker.

    Valiant Boiler Heat exchanger blocked

I was reading up today on Vaillant hex's and softened water. Apparently, only some models have a Stainless Steel hex (eg. 438). The others have Aluminium. The recommendation is that an Alu hex should not be filled with softened water. I'm not sure if that applies to areas where you only have...

    More radiators = new boiler?

Combi boilers are usually chosen based on HW requirement, rather than heating requirement. This means that combi boilers are usually oversized for the heating side, in order to give required HW flow rates. You can get very large combis which can allow 2 hot outlets (depending on flow rate), and...

    More radiators = new boiler?

If it's a combination boiler, keep in mind that the HW flow rate is going to be compromised when more than one hot outlet is in use. I see you are adding an ensuite, so this may be a factor to consider.

    More radiators = new boiler?

You need to do a whole house heat loss calc with your extension added. The boiler output is determined by the heat required to heat your house in the depths of winter. As said already, 25KW will probably be more than adequate for a 3 bed semi, even with an extension. The extra radiators you are...

Possible Building Control Issue At Sale

OP: It's highly unlikely Building Control will take enforcement action, given the time which has passed. The question then becomes whether a buyer will purchase the property where there is no completion certificate. That very much depends on the buyer, but if the room is not marketed as...

Low Loss Header - plumbed wrong!?

That's a very large system. I'm afraid I can't offer any more advice beyond what I've already said (i.e. my gut feeling is that the top secondary flow will steal all of the heat, leaving little for Zone 2). You definitely need a commercial installer (or one with commercial experience) with that...

Low Loss Header - plumbed wrong!?

Which low loss header do you have? Who designed the system? As Dan says, LLH systems are extremely complex and have a lot of different variables to them. IME, only commercial heating engineers have the required knowledge to do the calculations and size the LLH, pumps and pipes correctly. From...

Is there a way to add a pitch roof or make this flat roof look better

Yes, you can have a flat roof, with a false pitch (tiled) on the sides. My architect specified this for us on a large 7m x 7m extension. A full pitched roof was an option, but would have looked too overbearing on the rest of the house. A picture: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/357825132873158624/

    Building control pickle...

Any sensible solicitor will ask in his enquiries what this relates to - and given he/she is sensible, they will realise that because there is no loft conversion (or is incomplete), the non-compliance is expected. This should not be an issue. Unfortunately, not all solicitors (or their clients)...

    Boilermag isolation valve leaking

You can buy replacement isolation valves, but they aren't particularly cheap. If you are confident enough or are getting somebody in, I'd buy some good quality lever valves, and use those instead. Eg...

    Low boiler return temperature

Interesting that the boiler does not go into S53 (which is when the flow and return temp differential is greater than 30 degrees). F23 seems to be the same fault - maybe a vaillant engineer can explain why it would hit the latter? I would monitor d40 and d41 as the boiler fires up to see how...

Vaillant ecoTEC pro - No heating

What did you do to the wires which were connected to the original thermostat? They are connected to complete the circuit, so if they have been left unconnected, the circuit will not be complete and the boiler will not fire.

    Pump overrun/bypass question.

There was a thread on this recently. Search for posts by me. I think s8 was anti cycle, s7 was pump overrun.

    Pump overrun/bypass question.

Does the boiler not go into anti cycle mode if the pump overrun is not sufficient?

    New System Suggestions

But has anyone done a whole house heat loss calc to determine if that is actually the case. Unless your house is very, very poorly insulated, it's highly unlikely you'd require over 40kw. There are other advantages to having 2 smaller boilers, over a single large one, but that doesn't sound...

    Magnaclean Pro2 tips

IME, the isolation valves may well leak if you disturb them. Far easier to depressurise the system from a drain off point, and release enough water to allow you to pour some inhibitor into an upstairs towel rail. Then re-pressurise.

    Drayton Wiser and Vaillant Boiler

Worth having a read of this blog and comments to understand the anti cycling better: http://vaillantcyclingproblem.blogspot.com/2012/01/anti-cycling-mode-and-d2-parameter.html?m=1 I don't think s8 should be entered, provided the heat has been adequately dissipated with the pump overrun. Im...

    Drayton Wiser and Vaillant Boiler

I'm not certain on this, and don't have time to look it up, but I'd have thought that the Wiser switching off (because of TPI) would remove demand from the boiler and put it into pump overrun (S.7), whereas the boiler enters anti cycling mode (S.8) when there is still demand, but it is unable to...
