    Brake failure?

It's possible the friction material from one of your rear pads has fallen off, worth a look before you drive it again. The brake reservoir should never be empty, some use it as clutch fluid as well but the clutch fluid is always taken off further up the bottle for safety reasons.

    American threads

I was watching Fred Dibnah repairing one of his Traction Engines and he commented on how each nut and bolt were hand made and matched as pairs. Amazing when you think at one point there was no standards at all for nuts and bolts and all were hand made.

    American threads

For me you look at the head, guesstimate the size and try the socket/ spanner for a good fit. You can tell before you apply any torque if it's likely to round or not. I could probably pull 4 or 5 M6x1 metric fasteners out of my tool box with 4 different heads (10mm across flats, 5mm Allen...

    American threads

Most American vehicles manufactured over last 15 years or more have gone over to metric fasteners. I bought a load of Imperial kit for working on Harley Davidson's and even they have gone metric (amusingly when you get genuine Harley parts they have "made in China" on the packaging). The idea...

We had laminate down in kitchen for 10 years, it was in a sorry state by the end of it. Best thing I did was tile our kitchen floor, a bit of effort but far better.

2 hours to fix a toilet leak

If he's been on the job for 2hrs why shouldn't he get paid 2hrs?. I was thinking of this today while stuck in an engine. You could have a set rate for a job (ie major service including valve shimming on a bike), but to make that work you would have to charge some people more than the time...

Engine hoist or platform jack for me to take the weight when fitting gearboxes, makes positioning it a doddle too.

    Gearbox Leak Advice

Highly unlikely the shaft is bent imho. Hanging the gearbox off the the input shaft is bad practice but the most common problem is bending the clutch friction disk. This could cause clutch drag and poor gear selection.
