    New Front Door Gone Wrong

Regardless of the levels I really hope they are going to address the cracked frame smeared in white silicone and what looks like two cracked welds on the Anthracite grey. I appreciate that the wall surface is a little.rough bit the silicone in those pictures is awful.... I'd be embarrassed

    Internal pane spontaneously shattered.

That'll literally be the smell from within the sealed unit. Never quite pinned down what causes the smell but smelt it a few times when splitting down failed decorative units for repair

    Internal pane spontaneously shattered.

I'm with Crank on this... Pretty much guarantee its Nickel Sulphide Inclusion, much more common than people will admit. I've even had pieces go in my hands in our workshops before, most disconcerting!. As for the polycarbonate panel , you could but it would look awful

Conservatory door replace glass with UPVC

Just a note about microchip catflaps... they tend to go through batteries much faster than you'd like to hope

Conservatory door replace glass with UPVC

    It is probably 27.5mm ... 20mm spacer bar isn't actually 20mm , bizarrely it's 19.5mm... so yes you'll need a 28mm panel

Can you repair window lock buttons?

No way of repairing the buttons to my knowledge. It's effectively just a plastic clip ( some are metal ) , and honestly , really not uncommon foe them to go wrong

Fixing blown sealed unit in situ - no, really..

Not sure whats in veluxs specs now but im sure its a minimum of 4mm toughened... I'm sure they use 4mm tough,/6.4 lami now, never used to , used to always just be Std 4mm window glass which is ludicrous. The sizes of most velux certainly wouldn't need 6mm or 8.8 lami . I do suspect 8.8 lami...

Fixing blown sealed unit (not in situ!)

I fully understand the experiment side of it and well done for doing it. I was just adding some extra points in case anyone thought it was easy to split a unit down cleanly enough to reuse it . The only thing I will add is that by the time you've ' dried ' the dessicant out ( which will...

Fixing blown sealed unit (not in situ!)

Well done for attempting it ... needs to be pointed out that the sealant in an old unit like that will be different to modern sealants and they can be very tricky to get apart and the unit can easily be broken with too much force and you can easily slip with a stanley blade and cut yourself...

Upvc door frame and composite door

As cdbe .. don't see that threshold working for you I'm afraid , and not sure you'd get 15mm by cutting the ribbing. Potentially you could drop it lower than the inside floor but would take lots of double checking before hand that the door would actually fit ,55mm is a lot to try and lose in a...

Fixing blown sealed unit in situ - no, really..

Sorry folks been busy then away camping then a stag do lol. As others have said ... the unit has broken down, the dessicant is no longer active. That's your first issue Do not drill toughened unless you want a million piece jigsaw or drill the laminate ( without proper cooling) unless you want a...

Water coming through between window and sill (duplicates merged)

A bead of silicone should have been run across the top of the cill , just in front of that lip , where you've got a black arrow, and then the window screwed to the cill creating the water tight seal . There should also be a substantial bead of silicone either end of the cill to stop ( under...

Finish window architrave on uPVC sash windows

The bit at the bottom is part of the Integral cill. I'm a little confused as to why they have set them so far back Into the property, in fact the main frame is flush with the internal plaster, thus pushing the back of the cill within the property. Normally that wouldn't happen and that edge of...

Yeah blinds inside sealed units are really expensive , all depends on whether you want magnet operated, electric or what

Are argon filled windows worth the extra?

No units in the past were air filled , and majority are to this day. There is one company I believe that makes them with a vacuum , and that is purely for ' heritage ' purposes. And you can't really compare single glazing to a single unit lol... there is nothing to be effected bar one pane of...

Are argon filled windows worth the extra?

But as I explained earlier... it doesn't ' sit there and do nothing ' . It's constantly contracting and expanding with changes in temperature and atmospheric pressure. The materials that go into making a sealed unit don't do this at the same rate , and , in my honest opinion ( this is just...
