    Freshening up the kitchen

Hi, If it's a combi boiler like mine, it will turn off with the stopcock. It's not getting any feed water so it will stop. If it's hot water in a tank it might be a bit more involved I guess. I think sink cutouts are ok with a jigsaw as they are hidden under the lip of the sink. I did get some...

    Freshening up the kitchen

Hi, I'm doing something similar in my kitchen. I turned off the boiler, then isolated the incoming water main at the stopcock. Ie I turned off all the water into the house and this valve was in the corner of the kitchen. I chose to fit 15mm isolating valves on the tap feeds to make it easier...

Ideal material to cover existing, basin surround

I'm trying vinyl wrap as a painting alternative. Amazing how many textured vinyls you can get even make it look like rusty steel or mirror finish. Just a thought Graeme

Best Type Of Expanding Foam For UPVC Windows?

I have used the exact gap foam in a tin before and found it creates a smaller Foam monster. The best thing I have used was a proper foam gun and normal gun grade foam. It's miles more controllable, like epically different to cans of stuff. I imagine gun grade low expansion foam would be even...

Seriously puzzled after investigating washing machine not draining. Pls Help!

It must be either plastic lug type clips attaching the pump body to the metal machine housing Or A couple of screws holding it in Have you flipped the machine on it's back and looked at the pump from the bottom of the machine? If it's making strange noises and your stuck it may be time to...

Seriously puzzled after investigating washing machine not draining. Pls Help!

Take off the hoses and the connectors. Remove the plastic cover (17005 whiteish plastic bit) and the pump will be mounted with a couple of screws. Once it's out separate the black housing from the grey. Note how it goes together. The impeller simply pulls off the pump shaft. I used two flat...

Seriously puzzled after investigating washing machine not draining. Pls Help!

I had a similar problem with my hotpoint machine. Looking at 18007 it was virtually identical to my pump assembly. When I dismantled it and pulled off the impeller I found a bit of an elastic band jamming it. It looked ok until I had the impeller off though. Just a thought Graeme

Do sds drills have reverse? Maybe it's stating the limitation of the drill rather than the adaptor.

Stove flue - distance to brick

Mine was signed off by bc although in scotland (presume very similar regs). In my setup the flue pipe that exits the stove is about the same distance from the back of the chimney, 2". Higher up it's a liner that actually touches the masonary. That's only about 1m above the stove top so hot. It...

Stove flue - distance to brick

I don't know a definite answer to this but can't help think that the heat from a pipe is going to do less harm to masonary than lighting an open fire in the fireplace. Was that not what it was designed for originally or did you build the "chimney"?

Drilling a cast iron soil stack

Many thanks for all the advice. Excellent as always. I selected the drilling position based on planting the drill on the ground. It meant I just had to control it left to right as it started. From then in it was easy to apply even pressure. Cobalt bit was very slow. New hss was easy with...

Drilling a cast iron soil stack

Hi, My father has a blocked cast iron soil pipe where it exits the house. I was hoping to drill a hole in this and clear the blockage (10-15mm hole required). I have a pipe cleaner for a pressure washer that I can poke in then seal the hole afterwards. What bits should I use? Speed? Lube? If...
