No water supply, what happens when the hot water tank in the attic is empty?

Running out of ways to say this.Boiler is still full of water and coil in cylinder is still full of the same water. Cylinder is in fact still full of water, not that that matters. Boiler will not be aware that it has heated a cylinder full of water which you can not use as you have no cold water...

No water supply, what happens when the hot water tank in the attic is empty?

The cistern in the attic stores the water which feeds the Cylinder. The cylinder supplies the hot taps. The water in the cylinder is heated with a coil which is full of system water which is heated by the boiler. Yours may be tank fed as below or pressurised (filled from the mains). Either way...

No water supply, what happens when the hot water tank in the attic is empty?

Heating system water and domestic hot water are completely seperate so when your cistern runs dry, central heating circuit is still full. You can therefore leave heating & water on even when domestic tank has run dry.

Discharge from Boiler Cupboard Ventilation Grate

That looks as it should. No signs of water running down outside then? Is the air vent still open to the outside? It is possible that a small leak on the boiler, running down hot pipe is evaporating & then condensing on the cold spots so you could dry up everything, leave door open & heating off...

UFH added, now boiler occasionally trips out

Was the system dirty? If so the maybe muck in pump impellor causing poor flow. Are your pumps set up correctly? Is flow & return at the boiler very hot when it overheats, are they much the same temperature, is pump still running or has it stopped?

Discharge from Boiler Cupboard Ventilation Grate

It sounds less likely that it is your boiler as it has been checked during the period that this has been happening so that is good. Have you had a look outside, water running down wall from guttering, downpipe, overflow etc. then try to get a look in cupboard in flat above.

UFH added, now boiler occasionally trips out

Although the zone valve to the UFH is open, it could be that the blending valve is moved all the way to full re-circulate therefore there is no flow through the zone valve. The auto by-pass ought to be sufficient (assuming that you have at least 4m of pipe between boiler & airing cupboard. You...

Discharge from Boiler Cupboard Ventilation Grate

First, has she got a Co detector? Quite possibly a leak from above but gas boiler surrounded by condensation is a bit disturbing. On the flue outlet above boiler has the little plastic cap been replaced after the last service or is it open?

Simple Q. regarding braided tap hoses...

I have only dealt with 3 failed hoses. All of them after midnight, one of them I had to get the woman to come & pick me up cos of the drink. They don't just drip when they fail they are just open ended 15mm pipes.

    Under gassed boiler

If the gas safe certificate did not mention the undersized gas pipe then you could draw this to the attention of your solicitor who handled the purchase although from what I see of these things you will be unlikely to get anywhere unless you get £200 compensation & a £1200 solicitors bill. The...

Elbow, tap connector and check valve - not compatible

The shower below is a Mira Coda so not yours. All the bar mixer showers that I have dealt with have NRV fitted as below. It is the little cylinder that is held in place with a circlip. Many showers do not have a circlip so I have known them fitted without the check valve or with only one. If you...

Elbow, tap connector and check valve - not compatible

The tap connector has a little spigot inside which retains & supports the washer. This spigot will be too big to go inside the male elbow therefore the washer is not compressed between the mating faces. Therefore no seal. Are you sure that your shower valve does not have built in check valves...

Heating not going off on timer

Your pump is running, the boiler is firing, you have heat at the diverter valve and can send it to cylinder. If you switch valve to heating does the heat start to flow down the heating pipe? If not have you turned all your radiator valves off?
