Mould issues, requiring work or not? Done DIY or not?

Installing a unit - if you don't have a heat exchanging version the installation is simple, the difficult choice is where to place the outlet. A heat exchanging version is somewhat more difficult as you have 2 vents in a ceiling, one in the loft venting outside, possibly anther in the loft for...

Best way to secure sink top

Have you looked under the basin towards the back 'cause I'd expect there to be a couple of holes on the back for screw or bolt fixings into the wall.

Mould issues, requiring work or not? Done DIY or not?

Whilst most people see condensation on windows (principally because glass is thin and conductive of heat) it should be appreciated that (uninsulated) brick walls are also cold and will conduct heat away from the inside of a house. Cupboards and wardrobes close to a (cold) outside wall will get...

    protestors holding up ordinary people

If JSO are concerned about their descendants then they should protest about the population increase. I say it's time to stop paying child allowance for more than the second birth and heavily tax families with more than 4 children. I regard Billy-Boy Winsor a hypocrite cause he fathered 3...

How many wires for phone VOIP

I hope I made the correct assumption - in that it was the external cable that had pairs connected to together. Once you have been converted to FTTP you can disconnect the external cabling from the master socket. just need the internal wiring if you continue to use wired 'phones.

How many wires for phone VOIP

With evolution to FTTP the conversion from Fibre (signal carried in digital format transmitted by light) takes place in your home - at the ONT (Optical Network Termination). The VoIP (speech) signal is carried on the LAN connection from ONT to Router. The Analog speech (Voice) is extracted in...

BT master box and Virgin boxes?

If the faceplate isn't 2 piece (where the extension cables are wired into the front, lower half of the faceplate) unscrew the front part, if there is a Yellow capacitor in there that is the master socket, no yellow capacitor is an extension socket.

    Advice re chair for WFH

I had a desk job for over 25 years in 7 different offices before becoming a homeworker. From experience an 'Office' desk is a very personal thing. Each office had a different idea about 'computer' (office) chairs - what is one persons idea about comfort is another persons hell. I strongly...

Greg Wallace.. BBC got it wrong again

I was the technician in an Operator Assistance Switchroom in the '90's. That was five years of some of the most exciting (for a Red-Bloodied male), hair curling and learning times I could have had. There was during tea breaks, operator parties and other social activities some of the most ribald...

    Broadband and telephones

if you have prep work to for the shift to FTTP do it ASAP. When I agreed to the move to FTTP (at No Cost!) We agreed dates... The f***ing idiots turned and did the external fit 3 weeks early and turned up to to do the internal work the following week when we were still on holiday. I really was...

    No socket or hole

Landlords responsibility. Ask nicely, there should also be an inlet on the sink waste for a washing machine connection. And a Tap for the water inlet feed pipe.

    Restrictive covenants void

I've resided in 2 locations with restrictive covenants on frontages. No.1 - covenant stated frontage fence could not exceed 2 feet high, garden separating fences could not exceed 3 feet high (yes that long ago. What the covenants didn't include was height of gates so most people had 3ft high...

Issue with Quantum storage heater charging

Do you have a 'Smart' meter? If so then the discounted hours may be variable and the 7 hour period in 24 is not contagious. It is quite possible that the switch to E7 also occurs later (or earlier) overnight. With the HHR NSH they do need a continuous period of electricity to heat up especially...

    Broadband and telephones

It's really good you are using hardwired rather than WiFi for fixed stuff. Wish more people would! Sadly my new Router only has 3 ports rather than 4 but have managed to not use/need one connection. From experience the router being high up solves many issues with WiFi connectivity and reduces...

Shed - no access to 2 sides, how to prolong life

To preserve the timber in this extreme position may I suggest 'Waxoyl' thinned with 5 - 10% white spirit. I did this on garden shed some 25 years ago it shed water like new.
