    Having an electric shower replaced

I've just had a quote for an electric shower replacement and unusually it has come in cheaper than expected. Not such a bad thing but just wanted to check it is being done properly. The quote specifies a mains pressure 8.5kw shower. It will also reuse the current cable and fuse. I'm not 100%...

Where to start?! Dormer Window behind bedroom.

Thanks, that was my original plan. The quotes I've had however have been around £2500, which I thought was too much. I've had a builder come out and have a proper look now. He said the CAD drawings I've done would be sufficient for both planning (if necessary) and building control. So I now...

Where to start?! Dormer Window behind bedroom.

Right looking at planning permission, it looks like I need to pay £67 just to enquire to see if I need planning permission. The garage is to the side of the house. I have dug out the original architect plans for the extension from the 80's. The garage was extended out to the side my about 1.2m...

    4" Pipe blocked

Sorry for not posting back. I couldn't really wait 28 days. The local company came out next day and jetted it. The brush was out within 20 minutes, they then spent the rest of the time cleaning the pipes. Interestingly they couldn't get the jetting pipe down from the gulley end (after the...

    4" Pipe blocked

You've quoted me out of context, I was talking about a different pipe. The pipe with the blockage in comes solely from our property and leads to the shared pipe. I can access our pipe from this shared pipe that runs through our garden. Therefore the blocked pipe can only be blocked by our house...

    4" Pipe blocked

The brush is like this one: https://www.screwfix.com/p/bailey-drain-brush-4-/21038?kpid=21038&ds_rl=1245250&gclid=Cj0KCQjwpMLOBRC9ARIsAPiGeZCYGB3cM2h4M1VBDLEnKD_fZGz77qwQ-swOGosYgg9KmU5-MpGZgjwaAoYLEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CP-Y1aSe0NYCFaOHUQodJhwBUA The description says it is for cleaning...

    4" Pipe blocked

Possibly the wrong kind of brush, but I'd used it previously to clean the gunk from the sides with good effect. As above I can follow it down the pipe so I'm behind it, but that is about 5m down the pipe. From the other end I can get about 9m up the pipe (that is how long the rods are) but I...

    4" Pipe blocked

Oh, one more related question. I noticed whilst looking in the inspection chamber today that water was pouring in from the side. This is a shared pipe that runs from up the road, down the drive, under the garage and across the garden. It is where my blocked pipe ends up running to. I presume...

    4" Pipe blocked

Yes it is a sink drain. Whilst blocked it means that we can't use the kitchen sink or dishwasher without them flowing down the path instead. We have been using the utility room sink and I've been using the plunger to clear the drain every few days. So it isn't critical but still a nuisance.

    4" Pipe blocked

I realise that, that would be the cheapest option, but it would feel kind of fraudulent to say it hadn't happened before registering. Also I don't really want to wait for 28 days. Would rather get it sorted quickly.

No other charges. They said they will try their best for an hour, if they can't fix it then I guess they'll give prices for other work to sort it.

    4" Pipe blocked

I thought that too, but at one point the wheel lifts off the side of the pipe but carries on turning as it is pushed so I presume it must be riding up the brush. I agree though that the layout of the pipes means that I will struggle to ever rod right through. Will get the jetters in and see if...

No, not in London. Is that an ok price then?

    4" Pipe blocked

Had another quick look today. Today I attached the wheel and the camera and went from the other end under the man hole cover. I used an extension to allow me to use the camera for further. I used the full set of rods, which gave me about 30 ft. Using the camera I was able to see there was a Y...

    4" Pipe blocked

I don't think the camera is long enough! I might try a USB extension with lots of tape round the joint to make it as waterproof as possible! The rods on their own got stuck not far up last time (as if there was a bend) but the wheel might help that. The rods should be just long enough to reach...

    4" Pipe blocked

Unfortunately yes, I can see what the blockage is :censored: The blockage is the brush attachment that fell off on a previous cleaning of the pipes. I can see the brush but it doesn't seem to want to budge, hence me wondering if there is a partial collapse ahead of the brush? The camera shows...

    4" Pipe blocked

Got one of the wheels, gave it a try yesterday but didn't manage to shift the blockage. I attached the endoscope camera to see what was happening and I can direct it over the lip but I don't seem able to shift the blockage. Will give it another try today but I'm wondering if there is a partial...

    4" Pipe blocked

Thanks for all the advice, I will try a wheel if that doesn't work I'll try getting someone in. Only about £3 from toolstation for a wheel so will grab one tomorrow. I'm struggling to rod back due to the depth of the manhole. I have to climb into the manhole cover to rod back but the angle...

    4" Pipe blocked

No, I didn't have one of those, looks like it might be worth a try though. I take it the wheel will help it over the lip?

    4" Pipe blocked

Tried drain rods but they get stuck at the bend, no matter how much I try. They hit the end and just won't go round, I have used the camera to watch and through twisting etc I can get it to start to bend round the corner but just after the corner there is a lip and the rod gets stuck on there...
