Actually there are a new set of rules about disconnecting and fitting pre payment which ever type of meter is fitted. In some cases it wont happen. In some others not during certain times of the year. https://fullfact.org/online/smart-meters-remote-cut-off-energy-supply/

Your missing mine. The only group with any interest in meter readings is the suppliers. Due to demarcation problems they did have need to involve the distributors. eg Removing house fuses etc even fitting meters. The suppliers took the readings. Used to be pretty regular but the time interval...

So gov decides smart meters are a good idea from consulations. The drive for them is down to bills, no meter readers and demand monitoring for the electric power generators. Those need regular readings at some rate or the other. Daily wouldn't be much use to them. So as usual the gov passes...

Not needed on my old property or on some periods of house building where the meters will be in a cabinet usually inset in the external wall of the house. That change probably came about so that they don't need to gain access.

He's correct as he says The processes leading up to being cut off are exactly the same for both meters He should have said both types of meter. The reason for being cut of is payment problems and no solution found. Same for old meters and smart. ;) Turning gas off on the old meters must have...

That's not the problem though is it. Self turn off for some reason is the real problem. It even bypasses the checks a supplier needs to make before they decide to turn one off.

The update time on the electrics is mainly aimed at live monitoring for the producers. Off peak gets a mention but is only of any use if the unit that intends to use it has it's own timer. Update rate again still of use for the producers.

I'm not but feel there should be a lot more info on faults around when there isn't. Also contradictions at times. I quoted some from the BBC link. Nwgs2 problems. I see that a little differently. They shouldn't happen so the problem is the meter that failed. On this score I am inclined to agree...

I don't think that is unusual. It is supposed to be a way to inform the general public about the power usage of what they have connected by turning it off and back on again. ;) I managed similar without one. My wife liked to 1/2 fill the kettle every time it was used even for a cup of tea so I...

Thanks. It's confusing. Frequencies get mentioned as being HAN - home area network and do match that. Both of them on dual band. Elsewhere 3g and now 4g get mentioned which are cellular radio. Perhaps there are several companies offering the connection services and no standardisation. A...

Interesting. They appear to be using 3g and talking about going to 4. The other meter I have mentioned where heating is by oil is in Wales. 3g mobiles were not much use where the meter is. 4 too but 5 is ok indoors.

It seems to me that there is a need for the use of the freedom of information laws to see what is actually going on. Have assume the suppliers do log faults and what the end result was. This page covers the same as Panorama did https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq52382zd1no The latest...
