Help with plastering damp walls and internal wall insulation

Just a DIYer :) You could consider plasterboard adhesive foam instead of battens to attach the boards. It is waterproof so moisture/contaminates cannot transfer from brick to board. £8 tin does two full boards.

replace ordinary light switch with one with 7-day timer?

We have 3 Alexa and various smart bulbs/switches and heating. Works very well. Outside lights on at dusk. Heating back on the day before we travel home. If you are anti modern tech, table lamps with mechanical dial timers probably best. Tinfoil lampshades could be an option. Just in case. I...

Do you turn off the circuit when changing a lightbulb?

I was a very inquisitive but not so bright child at times. One of my 'I wonder what will happen if I touch that' moments was with a switched on slide projector bulb. It exploded.

That sounds perfect justification for a tracksaw :giggle:

    Cutting MDF window board ??

If the saw is not sat on the piece you are cutting, there is a risk of the saw tilting. Lower profile clamps may allow the motor to clear the straight edge and clamps. Another option is to have another piece of material the same thickness next to one you are cutting to act as a support for the...

    Fluctating led dimmer

Available Today. Get the Varilight Pro from Screwfix. Likely to work. They are good at taking items back if they don't work. Looks like the the one Murdo linked would need ordering in.

Floor is a bit of a mess - levelling compound approach?

It was a long day for me! Rinsed my tools into the drain. Set solid. Oops :giggle: Managed to chip it out. Mapei 1210 will do from 1 to 10mm. VERY quick look and can't see a BAL that does 1mm Another prime before you put any more down (y)

    Fluctating led dimmer

The spec on that is 5-100W I would guess your 14W (Max brightness) is getting to the dimmers limits when you turn it down. The one I linked usually sorts this type of problem. It operates from 0W to 300W I have one running 8 x 3.6W downlights and it smoothly dims them to almost nothing...

Floor is a bit of a mess - levelling compound approach?

Thanks for taking the time to update. Looks like a good job :) I did 7-10 bags on my own but didn't have far to carry it. What imperfections do you have? It doesn't need to be 100%. My click LVT spec is 2mm/M variance allowed.

    Fluctating led dimmer

Dimmers can be a pain with LEDs Are you using it on a single bulb? Which dimmer did you buy from Toolstation? These ones work down to zero load. A little pricey but often recommended because they work. https://www.screwfix.com/p/varilight-v-pro-1-gang-2-way-led-dimmer-switch-white/94816

Which is the best sludge cleaner for boiler system?

DIYer. I would suggest X400 for DIY who can take their time. Seems to have helped with my 30+ year old system. Left mine in for 3-4 weeks. I removed and flushed most of the rads too. X800 more suited to a pro who will want to get the job done in one visit.

    Swap spotlights

I would take the advice from Murdo above and replace with GU-10 and lose the transformers. If you pull the blue wires, hopefully the transformers will come through the hole. I have done the same in recent times Used these fittings a couple of times and seem decent...

Tips for best BBQ grill for a beginner?

I am a gas convert. Have a Weber. The 'flavouriser' bars catch the drips which creates the smoke (and flames with more fatty Pork, Lamb, Ribeye, etc) A bit boring. Preheat 15 mins. Food on and walk away until flip time. Excellent results most of the time. Often make pizza. Have smoked a chicken...

Tips for best BBQ grill for a beginner?

Probably a cheap one to get started and see how you get on. The higher end gas BBQs are very good, give good flavour and easy to use for a quick mid-week meal, I have a Weber. Not cheap mind!

Best DIY option for keeping a south facing room cool in summer?

Ground or first floor? We have an awning over our South facing french doors with side windows. Does help. Upstairs bedroom faces South and West. Gets a bit toasty. Closing blinds and curtains helps a bit. We have an ancient 1200btu portable AC that usually gets it to an acceptable temp.
