Smart controls for my central heating system

Thanks very much. Sorry, I haven't responded, I'm still stuck t work . It seems I have lots to read/learn. Let me digest and I'll no doubt be back with some questions.

Smart controls for my central heating system

Thanks, as you say, you've certainly brought some new ideas to the table. Albeit, rather expensive from a quick google..... I don't have a DHW cylinder at present. The house is a 3-bed detached, with 2 bathrooms, not massive. I currently have Heatmiser stats using RF without issue. I have...

Smart controls for my central heating system

Oh really, that's a shame. They seem to have a device to suit most scenarios..... Any other feedback on Salus?

Smart controls for my central heating system

Hi all, hope you can help. Central heating systems aren't my strong point and replacing anything at the moment could be risky as the Mrs will not be happy if I break something. I'm trying to limit energy usage for the random days we work from home. Heating the single office room sounds sensible...

    Spray foam underfloor insulation

Yep, as soon as I get a chance, I will investigate.

    Spray foam underfloor insulation

I understand the issues in the loft. I know it's not very popular due to condensation and rotting timber, but I would have thought under the house would be okay, especially if air bricks were still aren't blocked and ventilation isn't an issue.

    Spray foam underfloor insulation

I'm unsure as it's under a tiled and oak floor that I don't want to pull up to investigate. All I know is the house is freezing and doesn't retain heat and I know from looking under the stairs and lifting some floorboards, there is just a hole under the house. I can't be sure whether they...

    Spray foam underfloor insulation

Hi all, I've recently come to the conclusion, that my inherited wet underfloor heating is more than likely sat on cement boards, then floorboards which face the outdoor open suspended floor cavity. I still need to find a section to investigate and confirm, but I have a hunch that there is no...

Underfloor heating and boiler constantly running

Still looking into insulating my suspended floor. Just found this - Q-Bot looks great and might be easier with limited access. I'll start another thread to see if anyone has used them.

    Heating system design

That would be a no then. We use the log burner for between 4-6 hours an evening and longer at the weekend but no, I don't have a free supply sadly. No way I'd be able to house a 500 litre store, I was thinking I could at a push fit in the 210 litre.... Thanks for the links, I will take a look.

    Heating system design

Hi all, hoping somebody can help. I had Homeserve out today, as I've just started a boiler and central heating contract with them. They sent their engineer to assess the boiler but declined to insure my Vaillant Ecotech plus 837, because the condensate pipe had previously leaked and showed rust...

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Fair enough, I'm happy to investigate. What would you suggest I need to do then? I've never taken apart facia or soffits, so don't know how they should be.

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

When I was last up the ladder, I checked and it was sealed with some form of sealant. I wasn't checking at the time if it was connected to the soffits, but the image shows that it does screw to the side of the house which joins the facia boards.

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

To be honest I'm not sure. I guess it's worth looking up there again one day and taking it apart. I still have the Storm Dry, so if anything, I can coat the brick and reseal the facia. Probably not the best weather now though.

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

I wonder if retrofitting some trickle vents in those windows would do the same thing?

Please help with this damp patch on my wall

Drilling holes through the wall sounds a bit scary! How many would I need? One at the top and one at the bottom? Do we know why this is happening? Is it to do with cold bridging, where the solid wall is meeting the cavity wall and the temperature difference? Have to admit to being a little...

Underfloor heating and boiler constantly running

If I had my away temp at 14º, I think my boiler would be running most of the time. I can't justify the costs at the moment. I don't know much about the overlay boards, I didn't realise they are or can insulated.

Underfloor heating and boiler constantly running

I thought those cement boards might be in use, but I can't prove anything until I get some access. This might be some time as I don't fancy wrecking the wooden floor. I may have another nose under the stairs when I get the time and see if I can figure out what's going on under the floor. I'm...

Underfloor heating and boiler constantly running

Thanks for the comments so far. So, perhaps I am using it wrong. I'd typically set it to switch on about 04:30 in the morning, so it's warm when we get up and then switch off about 07:30 if we're both off out to work, so I'd set the away temp to be very low. Then set it to come on at about...
