    If you just had the oven remotely, people say its impossible for a oven to fail and go overload so you don't need any extra fuses/MCBs. Also the add on extension is less than 3 meters, so that supports not requiring additional protection. If the oven and microwave had plugs with fuses in them...

    well typically when there are two cables you: join the 2 red together (does that sound like it was before) and then use the blacks to connect to the lamp L & N But all this talk of things not working when the downstairs light is in a certain position, does really ring true for this setup

    personally I like the Swiss sockets. Also a similar version being adopted in south Africa. And somewhere in South America uses them too. Compact. Can accept the 2 pin euro plug polarity kept (when 3 pin used)

    The loose brass thing goes on the TOP. I also wonder if the brass rod from the left (supply), should be down one notch. So the brass flippy thing rests in the middle cut outs

    Regarding battery backup. I think the OpenReach solutions do use a 12v battery and the adaptor I link does too. Or just use a mobile phone!

    Modern wireless phones don’t need a ring signal. Or you can use an adaptor to generate a ring signal (were some on eBay ) Or wire in your master socket which contains the ring capacitor

    Other routers like Vodafone Virgin Sky use RJ11 phone sockets and no ring output.

    Yeah generally an old landline is better. Always works. Don’t need to dial an STD code like you do with EE/BT But my supplier cranked the price up so i caved in to save money. Will have to do it at some point anyway.
