    So its stood the test of time, its not leaning so foundations appear good except for ground shrinkage,mix some mortar and push it into the crack as best you can, repaint and report back in 10 years time

    Is the crack wider at the top than the bottom, could just be foundations settling more one side than the other due to drying ground shrinkage ( recent hot weather) and breaking foundations back. How old is the wall

    Yes the joists would tie into the beam and stop sideways/ buckling movement?

    It will always flex to some degree but if designed to its serviceability limit state the deflection should be acceptable, designing to its ultimate limit state will hopefully prevent beam failure.

    Bloody hell woody I spent a few weeks crawling over my roof last year digging out the loose mortar from my ridge tiles and making good, all to no avail. They do look nice though.

    Get a proper plasterer in and ask whether it is possible to make good with a reskim, can't see why not as thats whats happens on walls. Important thing is getting a proper plasterer to do the work

    Mould can be injurious to someones health but like everything it all depends on the type of mould and resistance of the individual (s), google mould and make your own informed decision, personally I've demolished a asbestos garage with a lump hammer at 33 and at 70 still here to tell the tale...

    The slabs will be at risk from weather induced ground movements and hence ditto the wall. However since you would need to have foundations at 600mm plus it doesn't make sense to go to such cost/extremes for such a structure, so yes it is prudent to build off your slabs but dont expect it to stay...

    Try not to get to stressed its not suddenly going to come crashing down around you, possibly a few cracks could appear but interacting forces will come into play in the overall stucture and keep things in equilibrium till things get sorted.

    i should imagine your roof rafters are located on the section of wall above the lintel which also means that if we ever get another good snow fall then the loading on the lintel could increase significantly, as stated earlier tomorrow, twenty years or never
