    Two radiators making noise

Two radiators upstairs are quite loud when the heatings on. Only way i can describe the noise is it's as if you can hear the water rushing through the radiator. Like when you have a tap on and you can hear water rushing through the pipes in another room All the radiators are new and the boiler...

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

The legal and certification side is a minefield. Rules are in place for a reason tho. As you said. Its my house so someone will only know if something goes wrong. Once the fault on the downstairs ring is sorted and I've ran a circuit in for a cooker in the kitchen il get someone to inspect and...

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

I could easily test my own property but I know it will fail. My downstairs ring main has no end to end on the earth. I need to get under the floor and replace a leg from the mains to whichever socket it goes to. I figured I could get someone in to issue a certificate and test it all but until...

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

I always thought certificates could only be signed off by someone registered through nic or napit or someone like that. I can fill in my own certificate from what bs7671 provides but I always thought they'd be worth and amount to nothing

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

I am an electrician I've just never worked for myself and domestic isnt my bag at all. I've always worked for companies. I can test and inspect. I know what the readings are and what the readings have to be. I can inspect and test. I just dont know the ins and outs of certification

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

I dont work for myself and I'm not nic so I would need to get someone else to officially sign it off. Would I be better off running some adaptable conduit up? Its difficult because the consumer unit is within the cavity itself at the bottom of the stairs. So all the circuits disappear into the...

Also is fishing up the cavity frowned upon?

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

Sorry if its getting confusing. When I moved in I decided to change the consumer unit. It's a wylex metal one. Their is limited room where it is so I couldn't fit a dual rcd board so I decided to go with rcbos. When I rewired the upstairs lighting I noticed they had borrowed a neutral for the...

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

Yer. I'm an electrician. But I've never done domestic. I work at a hospital and have done for many years. I know eddy currents and all that carry on. I technically only need to run a neutral up to the landing light but I dont know what issues it could cause only having a neutral connected on a...

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

The landing light would then be fed off the downstairs lights instead of the upstairs lights which I had to do so the neutral wasnt borrowed

Pinched neutral off upstairs lighting for landing light

I have installed a new mains with rcbos on my house. Rewired upstairs lighting and I noticed they'd borrowed a neutral from upstairs lighting when the landing light had a feed from downstairs lights. So I ditched the switch downstairs and the landing is fed by a switch at the top of the stairs...

    Water based gloss yellowing

This door has half the bottom part blocked by a unit/cabinet. So it's got restrictive light. How can I stop this yellowing or what paint would be best suited?

    Water based gloss yellowing

About 18 months ago our front room and back room was redecorated. When it come to glossing we sanded. Undercoated a couple of coats. Then a couple of coats of dulux water based gloss. In some places it seems to be yellowing? Is this normal? It seems to be worse like say their is a dream catcher...

    Trickle vents

So what would be the best permanent cure? A dehumidifier for winter months or an extract fan? The extract fan would only come on when lights are on. We cant have a trickle vent installed in a composite door

    Trickle vents

I will when I get home. If you zoom in you can see small droplets on the mini trunking. When I opened the back door within a few minutes both walls were bone dry. Would that not point to condensation?

    Trickle vents

I have mini trunking running around the bottom and it's damp on top of that. Behind I couldn't tell you. Is the paint bubbling because condensation is forming on top. Over time forming cracks then its getting underneath it. I scraped the bubbling paint off. It also was bone dry behind the paint...

    Trickle vents

There are no windows. It's a polycarb roof and the door. The roof let's all the light in. And its condensation on the walls at the bottom above the skirts causing paint to bubble. When I've left the back door open slightly the damp and cold walls have dried out so its definitely condensation...

    Trickle vents

Our utility room is polycarb roof, single skin brick, foam backed plasterboard. Like polystyrene stuff. Anyway at the bottom of the wall especially on the north facing side we are getting bubbling paint. Its condensation. If I open the back door it drys out no problem So we are having our back...
