Breaket blowing after fitting new ring main

Yeah, some cable manufacturers seem to be producing very uneven cable. Yep again, agree with this think logically stuff. But I don't think it helps to tell a guy he should have got out $1000 of test gear and measured things like crazy before daring to turn anything on. Helpful suggestions...

Breaket blowing after fitting new ring main

So just how many people go down to the CU and test the circuit after replacing a light switch? And if you had to remove the cables from the breaker to test them, do you then check for continuity of the reconnected cables? Do you check all the connections in the CU in case any have come loose...

    Live bath taps

Okay, the theory of bathroom bonding is to wire together everything earthy to ensure that they are all at the same voltage and you can never get the situation which you did get. Though arguably it worked, because although you could feel a shock you did not come to any harm. If all the current...

    Earthing question

As everyone posting here knows, lots of houses still have a missing earth in the lighting circuit. Nowadays it is quite common to buy electrical equipment which is 'double insulated'. In other words, designed to work without an earth and supplied with a mains cable having only two cores. I...

Dr who, did you see it

It would only be impossible if you travelled back in time and changed something which would have prevented you travelling back. Obviously, this is not possible so you are assured of this small success before you set out.

    existing cables

Not an earth which someone has sleeved with a piece of cut off black instead of green? Should be the central uninsulated wire with red one side and black the other of a standard cable.

    Live bath taps

You have copper water pipes? If the pipes are copper then the taps will be at the same voltage as the pipes. If there is direct metal contact this is obvious, but if there is a plastic flexible connector it is less obvious and via the water. No water, no connection. Even though you can feel a...

    13amp spur wired with only 1mm T&E - change to a fused s

Are you sure this 1mm cable is connected to the sockets supply somewhere and not to the lighting circuit? Anyone playing games like this might have just connected the boiler to the lights. (which would then be fused correctly)

I WANT TO LAY A NEW PATIO OVER EXISTING CONCRETE

Building inspector man he say..... You did know that a patio is required to conform to building regulations? I think it is probably just a belt and braces approach. But you should think about the possibility that the damp course might not be in very good nick. Then those two layers of brick...

Erecting wooden lap fence and posts, help!

When you dig out an old post you always find the bit right down in the ground is perfectly fine. They always rot at ground level. If you really want them to last then hardwood posts should last longer. But you would have to find them first and pay. Chemically pressure treated is better than just...
