    Immersion thermostat?

Following the recent tragic news about the baby that died following hot water tank thermostat failure I've looked at mine again since it did once "boil over" into the cold tank when the immersion heater was left on. Thankfully I was awake and it hadn't done it for long. Does this mean there...

    Replace different brand MCB?

Job done with the updated hager mtn range (has additional plastic flap). Found a useful wholesaler in the process too - cheers chaps! Bodger and Qrap only sold wylex and mk and I was pretty sure there was no way they'd fit ... luckily the wholesaler was round the corner. I'd never ventured...

    Replace different brand MCB?

My B6 Hager MCB has died - I've no idea what brands they sell in B&Q but it could be out of stock anyway. I'm normally an MK man. Could I replace one of these: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/HGMT106.html with one of these...

    1 inch rad valve?

Well, to cut a long story short - I didn't know what radiator tails were and thought the leaky valve was 3/4 inch when it was probably 1/2 because I was looking at it without the tail - I realised this when I got a couple of spares from screwfix. Bargain, really nice for £15. No need to use em...

    1 inch rad valve?

That's a great diagram Chris R, cheers. Well, looking at that pic, it was leaking through the gland nut. And I tightened it until the leak stopped but the tap will not move and I guess the rad is locked off: not getting hot. Because there was water leaking out the top I'm guessing it might...

    1 inch rad valve?

Ok, if I take your word for it that it won't p!ss gallons everywhere :D ... I know I can unscrew the top below the tap handle, I guess then the handle might come off but then how do you repack the gland? Never done anything like that so need some beginners instructions!!! ...

    1 inch rad valve?

Timmyturtle, but its 3/4 inch right? When you say its a standard valve what type is it and where can I get one!!? doitall, I know they were a real bonus when we moved in - if I get the rad sand blasted - the one in the pic has already been done, the leaking/broken valve is the same but chrome...

    1 inch rad valve?

Pipe from the floor is 15mm, well - I say that but I don't know it for a fact... though when I moved a rad upstairs I used standard 15mil fittings ok. While the rads, valves and boiler are less than 10 years old I couldn't guarantee the pipes on the ground floor in screed were done at the same...

    1 inch rad valve?

This is another one of the taps that isn't leaking! The one inch measurement is the inside of the gold nut in between the rad and the valve, which is the radiator tail? Why would I want to take that off? :( :?: Cheers!

    1 inch rad valve?

??! What's OP? "¾" thread of the union nut" - that makes sense, but am I looking to replace the radiator tails as well then? What am I going to do if I measure the hole, aren't I going to attach the valve to the tail anyway? Cheers chaps!

Hi, is Plumb Centre a good place to get a reducing bush? There's one fairly close by I should be able to get to on saturday... Cheers!

    1 inch rad valve?

ahh sorry that was me at 1am this morning!!! Of course yeah the rad is the female end :-) Reducing bush - that's a good idea, then I can maybe just get everything from screwfix :D Cheers!

    1 inch rad valve?

Hi Tickly, thats reassuring/makes sense/interesting bit of knowledge! Sounds like it could be 3/4 then.. but why would I need a reducer if that's the case? Don't understand ... The radiator end is the male connection and I measured the inside of the nut on the valve as 1 inch, which would make...

    1 inch rad valve?

One of my cast iron bathroom rad's valves is knackered. While I may be able to fix it if I took it off this is a drain the system job so I want to have a good replacement if necessary. BUT, measuring similar valves since taking those rads off to be sandblasted it looks like the rad-side fitting...
