make sure you are using 'multiwrap' ptfe as its much easier to get a good seal with. had no problem today changing a heat exchanger with parallel threads and ptfe only. :D

if you have a leaking heat exchanger its [probably a good idea to sort that out at the same time. if you cant sort it then its time to get a new boiler. that small leak can eventually burst causing all sorts of lovely water damage and a bigger repair cost. or it can slowly drip and...

in that case, if the shower was genuinely ok before the fault began then its probably not completly sorted. obviously a dirtly dhx hex was partly to blame , but you should still be able to run the shower. when you next can get them back to check the heat input of the boiler and to demonstrate...

i doubt it. if your hot water is working ok now apart from the shower, it could be worth descaling the showerhead just in case that is also blocked and could be exacerbating your problem.

I dont know what brand the british gas trv's are, but i know that if they are knocked too far onto the radiator tail when fitting (when the tail is longer than previous valve) that it will cause a whistling noise.

why not get the previous owner to cough up as the boiler should be in good working order as part of purchase.
