Excessive Gas Consumption - Not sure what to try next!

How will you "turn off the boiler" ? The frost stat will overide any timer(Tado) settings and it is not advisable to let your external (garage) boiler freeze

Excessive Gas Consumption - Not sure what to try next!

That is NOT peak consumption, it is consumption averaged over 1/2 hourly intervals. As you seem to be running your heating system all day I am not surprised at your consumption. Are you using radiator thermostats on all radiators or just a room stat ? Does your frost stat run all the radiators ?

Excessive Gas Consumption - Not sure what to try next!

Forget Tado it is not measuring anything but trying to estimate it, quote from there own website "We estimate (heating) energy consumption based on historic tado° heating data. To make an accurate estimate, we need the energy consumption data from at least two energy bills. Just the meter...

    Garage door jammed - help!

I looked at roller doors to replace our up & over but in the end went for a sectional IMOP very much stronger. Mine was made by Hormann. There is a UK company but they wanted my inside leg measurement before they would answer any simple questions!

    Hormann garage door frustrations

That's disgusting, roast them on every consumer feedback site you can think of. Name & shame! Looks like they are responding to negative reviews on Trustpilot so start there but be careful Trustpilot delete some negative reviews.

    Hormann garage door frustrations

I have just had one of those fitted, no serious problems. First thing to do is check the company you bought it from is listed here If they are then contact Hormann UK and complain bitterly! If not trading standards / trust-pilot (increasingly useless but worth a shot) It should fit, no ifs, no...

    internal or external boiler?

I have unfortunately inherited a gas boiler in an un-insulated garage and the wretched thing fires up over & over again during the night and sometimes in the day due to it's frost stat wasting lot's of gas in the process! If it ever wears out I will replace it with an internal one for that...

Chimney Cowl to use with a gas fire (Ed.)

I have a low power (7Kw) Airflame gas fire. It has no liner and it was fitted with a cowl very similar to what you are suggesting although seemingly with more exhaust area. It has been inspected by a gas safe engineer and no adverse comments. Ask your supplier what's supposed to be wrong with...

Last UK coal fired power station closes

Power cut's this winter then, what with that and the shutting down of gas exploration the future is anything but rosy.

Solar PV - [not] Great Expectations!

I would have my old oil boiler back in a flash! No ripoff standing charges, buy energy when the price is right, what's not to like (sadly I moved house & left it behind). I would be very very wary of ASHP, is your house exceptionally well insulated ? Are you intending to have new radiators and...

If you were changing your "2nd" car now what would you buy?

My present diesel does 60mpg round the lanes, why would I want any other tech!

Lighting and alarm cables running alongside each other

My alarm bells rang on that one, plenty of advise not to do it! I guess it depends on the panel and length of run that you did not tell us about. I have a very long run of 30M or so under floorboards in proximity (<=6") of power cables but it is CAT5 twisted not standard alarm cable, even so I...

Want more water heated with electric.

If it helps my stat is 17" (43cms) long in what looks like a pretty standard tank (32x18" / 81x46cms) BUT I don't use that stat, instead I have a thermal sensor buried in the insulation under the immersion flange. There is a difference between heating with the boiler and the immersion that has...

Want more water heated with electric.

Hmm so much in there it's hard to comment but one thing struck me straight away and that's where you say you have to have a battery to get paid for export ? First I have heard it, maybe silver tongued salesman selling you a battery lols I am not impressed by your tariffs, mine is 20.2p flat and...

Want more water heated with electric.

Very interesting graphs, it's a shame the tank temperature is missing, are you able to add that ? At the end of the day you have chosen a battery to absorb most of your surplus power so the only way I can see that there is more surplus to also heat your water is to add more panels (assuming the...

Want more water heated with electric.

Ohh so you are charging batteries as well!! My guess is the priority scheme for the solar energy is something like this 1/ Charge batteries 2/ Service household loads 3/ iBoost (hot water) 4/ Export So it seems to me your hot water is too far down the list to get any useful power except on very...

Want more water heated with electric.

I wonder what your solar system size is ? Your system gives priority to household loads such as freezers etc so potentially on a dull day your immersion is receiving almost nothing anyway ?? Mine is an overpanelled 1Kw inverter who's priority is water heating and we never run out in the summer...

Want more water heated with electric.

Absolutely I noticed that too. I use solar to heat my hot water and the stat is set to 60C (kills bugs I believe). 30C sounds like a bio brewer, in fact my beer heater is about 25C the yeast loves it.

Solar mounts on an EPDM flat roof

You can calculate wind load here then subtract your panel and mounting structure weight to find required ballast, then check your garage roof structure is capable of supporting that weight all quite simple. Flat panels will loose a lot compared to even a moderate slope of 10-15degrees that is...

Liebherr Fridge Freezer Not Cold Enough -2 to -10 at most

I don't think you can blame "design flaws" for careless operation, I don't think any FF will operate properly under those conditions. We always make sure doors are shut as we know if not we will loose energy AND possibly our food!
