I wrote about this the other day thinking it was wind but it is not. Instead it seems after the heating has been running an hour or so and the radiators are all hot and the TRV's progressively closing, the boiler is modulated right down, the room stat does not shut it off but perhaps it does...

Sounds good, so if all the stats prove it's the pump or zone valves or timer! I still don't think it's likely to be the boiler, mine was at least 10 years old when I inherited it and during 15 years with me it never put a foot wrong!! EDIT just seen your reply, go for a stuck zone valve then...

But when it's not working, is the pump still working and the zone valves open ? maybe one or other or both are intermittent. Actually as it's intermittent perhaps the boiler stat is intermittent, check across the contacts when it's not working if safe for you to do.
