Induction hob failing with a loud bang.

IMOP combination of poor design and fake parts. Beware where you buy your replacements from, not the like of Ali-Express or some of the more dubious Fleabay suppliers I hope :cautious:

Ideal Mexico HE18 intermittent re-ignition fault, update

I hope so, still in the post.......... But there was more besides, the design and construction in the area was very poor. Rivet nut's used back to front so the practically fell out, unplated brass tags for earths so they were heavily oxidized together with poor spade terminal tension. It would...

Liebherr Fridge Freezer Not Cold Enough -2 to -10 at most

I think that thin metal tube along the bottom is the heating element, when it's all thawed out see if you can carefully remove the polystyrene for a better look. It probably terminates in those two blue wires, if you have a test meter, test the resistance with it's connector disconnected, I seem...

Ideal Mexico HE18 intermittent re-ignition fault, update

Just another update, I have been watching it and cataloguing circumstances and am pretty sure it fails after about 70 minutes because two things happen. One is the flow to the radiators reduces as many rooms have come up to temperature so the boiler reduces output, eventually this is not enough...

Samsung fridge freezer not freezing properly

Sorry i did not realize it was some gigantic larder fridge, I don't know anything about those!

Samsung fridge freezer not freezing properly

You said "Cleaned out inside and defrosted the pipes", does that mean the entire heat exchanger behind the rear panel in the freezer ? How long was it off for, how much water came out, did you put a bowl of hot water in it and leave the door open ? Sorry but it's not clear what you did, maybe my...

Climbing a war memorial - not a crime

Probably depends who or what you are, if your human rights might be infringed, prospect of successful prosecution etc etc

Ideal Mexico HE18 intermittent re-ignition fault, update

Update from testing today. I removed TRV's from lounge as thermostat is also in there and I was concerned about reduced flow upsetting the boiler. I ran the heating just to the two radiators in the lounge, all other TRV's off. It ran faultlessly with the boiler cycling on and off to maintain...

Ideal Mexico HE18 intermittent re-ignition fault, update

Yes I thought it was the wind as we have had a lot recently, there were cobwebs down the flue so I cleaned it with a radiator brush but to no avail. Guess I will just have to try and get down to exactly when it happens and make it repeatable so a GS engineer can fix it. It does seem to be after...

Ideal Mexico HE18 intermittent re-ignition fault, update

I wrote about this the other day thinking it was wind but it is not. Instead it seems after the heating has been running an hour or so and the radiators are all hot and the TRV's progressively closing, the boiler is modulated right down, the room stat does not shut it off but perhaps it does...

Lukewarm rads and constantly cycling boiler

So did it work before this thermostat was removed ? Perhaps whoever removed it did not restore the circuit as it was before.

Ideal Mexico HE18 sensitive to wind!! DELETED as not the problem.

I thought it was the wind but not so started new thread!

He can't fix it so I'm suppose to replace my oil boiler. Really?

Sounds good, so if all the stats prove it's the pump or zone valves or timer! I still don't think it's likely to be the boiler, mine was at least 10 years old when I inherited it and during 15 years with me it never put a foot wrong!! EDIT just seen your reply, go for a stuck zone valve then...

He can't fix it so I'm suppose to replace my oil boiler. Really?

But when it's not working, is the pump still working and the zone valves open ? maybe one or other or both are intermittent. Actually as it's intermittent perhaps the boiler stat is intermittent, check across the contacts when it's not working if safe for you to do.

He can't fix it so I'm suppose to replace my oil boiler. Really?

As a sadly ex-oil boiler owner myself the symptoms you describe are indicative of no or little water flow. Have you checked the pump has power to it and sounds normal ? If there are multiple zone valves, are at least one of them powered ? Try forcing them open manually with the lever. Something...

Lawful development certificate granted for two large garden buildings using the Caravan Act

I find it extremely unlikely that this apparent loophole in planning law really exists in practice, it may be that your LA is negligent, uninformed or that nobody has seriously disputed this development in the courts. The idea that neighborhoods can be subjected to uncontrolled quantities of...

Thoughts regarding running a low voltage DC immersion heating element directly from a solar panel?

So back to the OP's problem, I was simply trying to point out some potential pitfalls including the arcing of thermostat contacts handling DC power! Yes there are many possible conversion solutions and the thermostat contact problem should be born in mind, personally for significant powers...

Thoughts regarding running a low voltage DC immersion heating element directly from a solar panel?

This could get very technical but potential converters include buck, boost & sepic that all switch at high frequencies (10's or even 100's of Khz) but do not reverse the direction of current in the load. An arc does not have sufficient time to extinguish at these high frequencies nor is it...
