    USB charge time.

I've bought 20 AWG cables from https://www.juicebitz.co.uk as I was fed up of connections cutting out when transferring files. Got 0.5m ones which could be a useful benchmarking tool for you as well as being pretty fast.

Removing upstairs wall - running into problems!!!

Plasterboard to go on top. Roll of rockwool in the loft to stuff the gaps.

Removing upstairs wall - running into problems!!!

I found a 3mm gap between floor and bedding mortar at back of cupboard. Front of cupboard is properly resting on floorboards though. Gaps filled with variety of steel strips as far as practicable. New stud wall up and stiffened with ply. I've tried to make it as rigid as possible, and it's...

Removing upstairs wall - running into problems!!!

Thanks woody, I'm beginning to get a sense of what these walls are all about now. I think the wall around the doorframe to the bedroom has historically uncoupled itself from the "rigid panel" at some point in the past, as the frame and plasterboard above are quite wonky. There is some historic...

Removing upstairs wall - running into problems!!!

Thanks TicTac/noseall. When the snow clears I'll be able to get to wickes hopefully. Opening other side is long gone, so it will be double header straight up against the ceiling. View from bed this morning:

Removing upstairs wall - running into problems!!!

Hi, the loft construction is 3x2 joists with cross-bracing of 4x2 and chipboard on top. There are no water tanks these days. A new stud wall will be constructed where the old alcove opening was removed previously (further towards mid span). Would this provide the support needed? There are 2...

Removing upstairs wall - running into problems!!!

Is the thin blocks thing a problem though woody? I was hoping that the box shaped cupboard ould keep steady. Is it a structural issue?

Sorry the ceiling joists are perpendicular - now corrected.

Removing upstairs wall - running into problems!!!

Hi I'm trying to move an alcove from the rear bedroom to the front bedroom. My plan was to remove the existing wall (between airing cupboard and chimney) and build a new stud wall to form the back of the new alcove. Here is the plan: Upstairs by mfarrow posted 2 Mar 2018 at 9:48 PM The...

    Lighting "design"?

Lighting designers are expensive (Kevin McCloud is one) and don't get out of bed for less than £2000. The one I know though (been friends with him since we were 12) basically said don't go for patterns of spotlights and point the lights where you want them (doorways, tables etc). Less can be more!

    Consumer Unit Replacement

Just polish up the conduit and use some BS951 connectors. But get continuity checked too to ensure earth reaches the extremities of the conduit system.

Main Trip Switch Tripped, All Power lost, electric cooker element.

He means the supply has been connected to the LOAD side of the cooker switch, which means the feed to the fridge is going through the cooker switch as well as the socket switch.

    Gangs to close any ideas?

I would think about a 3-way, 2-gang grid plate and filling it with 20A DP switches. You can even get ones with neons and MK do labelled ones which say 'fridge', 'hob' etc. This would then leave only a gap between the socket and the 3-way grid plate to fill/tile. And of course you'll need to...

Well this bunch of crooks seem to have the OP worried enough to change his username and delete a thread on the same subject this morning.

    Unidentified electrical (?) fitting....

I think it might be "Öffnen" which would be open, or perhaps withdraw in this context. EDIT: maybe squeeze the arrows together to take the cover off?

2-pole 2-way switch as 'electrical accessory'

I wonder if any manufacturer's 3-gang 2-way light switch could be "combined" with their fan isolator switch? I'm thinking you could have a normal 3-gang light switch mechanism but with a giant fan-isolator-like rocker operating them.

    Another BS 5733 "not quite"?

There is a section called "Information to be marked on accessories". It mandates ("shall") the name/TM of manufacturer/vendor and "BS 5733". It then says "other information shall be marked if relevant: ... k) for accessories classified according to 4i) as maintenance free, the appropriate...

    Another BS 5733 "not quite"?

It's the former. 5733 defines the symbol and the definition for maintenance free: "accessory which does not require further inspection, testing or maintenance after installation in a circuit, and which incorporates screwless terminals (see 14.5) and cable clamps to secure any associated...

    Toilet suggestions

That looks like an American site. My opinion still stands above. Dama-N has been very well behaved, and flushes everything. Just make sure you have everything flowing downhill, I.e. the pan outlets are >= the height of the soil pipe, assuming back wall exit.
