    Best LED Dowblights

These seem incredibly good value for money: http://www.screwfix.com/p/philips-led-glass-reflector-lamp-350lm-900cd-5-5w-3-pack/8503p?_requestid=58642 I'm finding out today if the three pack is actually real!

    Temperature operated switch?

You should find what you need in the aesthetically-unpleasing Sunvic 2000 range. http://www.sunvic.co.uk/codepages/downloads.aspx?file=/media/1393032/tlx2000_series_electro-mechanical_room_thermostats_aw.pdf

    GE MCB, alternative?

These should fit. The Elfa Plus is physically the same as Series E. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/MODULAR-PLUS-EP61-C63-63AMP-SINGLE-POLE-MCB-MINATURE-CIRCUIT-BREAKER-TRIP-SWITCH-/321279670073 One I improved earlier (2010): Untitled by mfarrow posted 20 Mar 2010 at 2:29 PM

As I said earlier, its the logo which gives the older ones away.

    Cooker & Double sockets issue

The setup is very strange. Unusual to find socket circuits on 16A MCB. Usually you'd expect 20A devices if radial circuits, or 32A if rings. Also, the lack of proper ingress protection at the top of the consumer unit tells me it's not been installed by a professional. I'm also surprised to...

    birmingham extenstion ideas.

There's some good architectural technicians around. Try Dilworth in Shirley.

    Frost and mortar.

You're fine to do it now, but it's good practice to cover in winter months.

    brass connector

The 28% is against copper. Personally as John says don't worry about it. It will be a lot more conductive than copper oxide, which will eventually form on a copper connection under those conditions. In fact even Gold, often heralded (if not, implied) as the best conductor of electricity is...

How to connect several electrical wires together

You could use 8-way wago connectors in a suitable enclosure:

    Oil from switxh

Thanks Gaz, I had heard about this in railway signalling installations, I didn't realise this applied to domestic wiring as well! http://www.theiet.org/forums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=205&threadid=36518 Seems to have things well documented. Cleaning with meths will work even if it turns...

    Oil from switxh

Yes, an odd one that! Oil can have a long term impact on the wire insulation, so if you can, cut back to fresh. Do that anyway if there are any signs of burning. If not just clean them up as best you can.

Decent/Cheap Builders Trowel for DIY Use

You certainly would if you bought the same Screwfix basic set that i did. Handle on trowel came loose in no time, and the blade felt like it was made of rubber. Get Ragni. I bought the bigger trowel size and it did me very well. Depending on what and how often you're building, the trowel...

    Fire in fuse box

I've used 0.75mm on our burglar alarm, in flex, it's on a C3 circuit breaker. I could have used 1mm cable, but that would have been against regulations :-D All very daft!

    Fire in fuse box

Someone's left a screw loose. It's not unheard of unfortunately, but is unforgiving. Your aim now should be go get the new electrician to replace the damaged MCB, its neighbours either side, and ensure the security of all other connections. You should inform the neighbouring homes and...

I assume @winston1 has allowed for a kettle in every socket in their house, just in case.

Dismantling Conservatory. What can be salvaged?

We sold ours on eBay for £100 and the guy collected and dismantled. Doing it via the neighbour sounds like a horrid ordeal.

    Relays, mains fail, delay.

@JohnW2 that's OK. I inserted a comma between "posted" and "about" and it read just fine ;-) One more crazy idea. A loop of copper pipe filled with glycol/water solution and heated by an element. A pipe thermostat opens and closes when the water is hot/cold enough and acts as the time delay...

How about an electromechnical thermal overcurrent HV protection relay?
