Thanks for the advice. When you say slackening back you mean to drain down the system below the level of the pipework? Also when you say re manual iso level valve and the automatic vent valve so it can then be easily isolated if it start dribbling what do you exactly mean by it start dribbling?

Yes I tested that with a magnet (see a few posts above with pictures) and the magnet did attach. I still do not follow why only HW flow has issues though?

Ok so I boxed it all up and redone the tests: 1) HW only - boiler runs for 30sec or so (probably from previous mid position) and stops even though cylinder stat cranked up to 70C before the test, pump shows 18W 2) HW & CH - boiler fires up and runs indefinitely when room stat cranked up to 27C...

For the wheelhead balancing valve I can post few photos when I am back but I do not remember seeing any. As for the slackening back the compression valve do you mean when the system is hot? Currently cylinder is showing about 50C when it clicks.

Thanks @cdbe. It all makes sense now. On a slightly different topic since you worked with would a lot - I've just got the C24 2x7 delivered today and it has some splits in it at the ends? Is this normal and nothing to worry about or can this develop into longer splits as I have not got wood...
