    There are rules for boiler tails to prevent rupture on excess pressure/temperature. If followed, good as any material. Especially in a fire.

    Old Duffers wouldn’t understand the benefits of plastic v Iron. Durability has to encompass thermal expansion and movement. Cast iron was never very good at this. Plastic is fairly corrosion proof and is happy to move a little if necessary. I know which I would trust at minus 20C

    Fit a timer to the secondary pump. Time the hot water and get motorised valve checked. It’ll cost you a fortune the way it’s being used. Secondary circulation only at peak times of usage.

    Steel pipework shouldn’t be used on fresh water systems ! Galvanised was used when necessary but not recommended due to corrosion! Without seeing the pipework it’s hard to tell what’s causing your discolouration. Pictures would help.

    You don’t need one ! Buy a pump and some inhibitor instead! You’ll need new pump valves too!
